Tecate or TJ??

bennme - 4-24-2011 at 02:56 PM

just wondering what the consensus is on the best crossing for time, traffic, expedition etc.? I can do either........thanks....Keith

we do TJ aftr having a good breakfast in Ensenada and headed north at about 10 a.m. Takes about an hour or less, once you reach the line.

We have done Tecate and it is only good if you find the need to be constantly on the move rather than wait in line at TJ.

We once did TJ at midnight due to a medical emergency - we zoomed across but people say driving at night is not recommended ... but I gotta tell ya - it was a breeze.

Going north or south? I assume you're still going south.
If you arn't going to deal with customs, go Tecate way.
If you're a Christian, pray to Jeeezus that all goes well.
Have a good trip.

Tecate last sat 20 min
Sy was 2 hours per radio

I assumed the question was for heading north. for anyone going south, it does not make a bit of difference, right ?

Actually, it is for heading south. I will have my temp. FM3 and menaje de casa pulling a small wells cargo with my stuff..............Keith

If your coming back on a weekend, I'd do Tecate. I think I am done with San Ysidro, going North.

It seems that everytime I try to come back North, they close off the border, and I always get lost in TJ.

Last time I got re-routed 3 times. Then I still couldn't find a way into the border lines, so I drove East to Tecate. It was about an hour wait. But then they sent me to secondary. All in all, it was a horrible trip North, but whatever. ;)

He's going south, so won't Otay be the place to present the Menaje? I don't know. I never went through it.

I crossed on my motorcycle at TJ on Tuesday morning at 10am. Wait time was 45 seconds.

That Is The Correct Answer to The Question!

TECATE

Our little convoy will use Tecate entry into the USA early next week. I like the peaceful country drive, campgrounds, roadside cafes (Lala and Mustafo's are great places to eat), and the winery opportunities.

Coming south, San Ysidro is a breeze, especially if you do it early morning. Going north Tecate. However, since a lot of gringos have discovered this route it's starting to rival SY in waiting time. 15, 20 years ago, if you had 2 cars ahead of you it was considered busy.

tecate, tecate, always tecate.

What is the proper etiquette when on a motorcycle? I see motorcycles always head to the front of the lines when North bound, then just cut in.

yup, that's it. Did you just use etiquette and "la linea" in the same sentence?! ROTFLMAO

I always cross in Tecate going south... I'd rather have a little more driving time tacked on and miss out on the possible mordida/declaration hassle in SY or otay.

Have never been stopped going south and thats fully loaded each time.
I know sooner or later it may happen, but so far Pasole!
