Mexico’s census: TVs outnumber fridges

Curiously interesting...........

http://www.economist.com/blogs/americasview/2011/04/mexico%E...

"In 1990, one in five dwellings had a bare-earth floor. Now only 6% do. ... More interesting still is what Mexicans put in those homes. More houses have televisions (93%) than fridges (82%) or showers (65%). In a hot country with dreadful television this is curious."

So very smelly people who eat canned food or eat at taco stands, still can enjoy their telenovelas?

Have to confess that when I first encountered the title of your post, my first thought was that in the US, by and large, most households really only need one fridge. But at the same time, most households have multiple TVs.

The USA is a nation of fat people. That's why we all need 2 refrigerators per house (the extra fridge in the garage, doesn't everyone have one?) and 1 TV per bedroom, plus a TV in the family room, and a TV in the kitchen, TVs in our cars, and TVs on our smart phones.

Now our cars are even coming with refrigerators, so we can snack, watch TV, yak on cell phone, and read/respond to email/texts -- all at same time while we drive.

Living large!

Multitasking requires a refer full of energy drinks and ice cream bars and american chees slices!

TV Land

I remember back in the 80s down in the Coachella Valley, an interesting statistic was published regarding Telephone and Cable TV Monthly (non-payment) disconnections.

With roughly equal disconnects, the TV reconnects ran substantially higher.

I guess when money's short, TV is more important than talk.
