Stranded in BOLA!

bajamigo - 5-1-2011 at 10:39 AM

My wife and I are in BOLA waiting for a mechanic to fix our very dead Suburban (radiator problem). As we while away the hours, any suggestions for where the good restaurants are, ideally within easy reach of los Vientos (our present exile)? And does this wind ever stop?

Captain says "HI".......

Wasn't once enough?????

bajamigo - 5-1-2011 at 11:27 AM

Actually, this is not a bad place to be stuck. Cloudless skies, gorgeous water. super-nice people---it could be a hell of a lot worse. Next time I'll bring a quad; this looks like a great place to explore. We did bring along two kayaks, so if the wind ever subsides, we'll head out that way. Yep, it could be worse.

We had a cat and a beautiful basset hound wander into our room (we leave the doors open). Which one would you like?

Make lemonade

bajaguy - 5-1-2011 at 11:43 AM

Well, seems like you will have enough time for K to do reviews on ALL of the eating establishments in town.......also good fodder for some upcoming articles!!!!

nbacc - 5-1-2011 at 12:12 PM

Sorry you are stuck but it does'nt sound too too bad. Hopefully you found someone good to fix it and in a reasonable amount of time (that is the important word (reasonable). . Nancy and Richard

Santiago - 5-1-2011 at 12:46 PM

I hear the military kitchen next door ain't too bad. Isn't the kitchen open at los Vientos? The road is paved from your place into town so bikes would work. Try this link:
http://www.bahiadelosangeles.info/restaurants.htm

bajamigo - 5-1-2011 at 12:54 PM

Regrettably, the kitchen is open. Nah, I take that back. The poor guy who fills every role from cashier to chef in apparently 24-hour shifts is pretty good; a little heavy on the salt, food a bit overdone, but we'll survive.

It's too bad he can't get more support. This morning, after 12 people showed up for breakfast, he did his thing(s), then some help arrived for him--long after the horse had left the barn. A little better management would make this a really nice place.

Gotta go! Sr. Mecanico just showed up, as promised!!!

YUP it's a real fun place to have a Quad.

woody with a view - 5-1-2011 at 02:34 PM

BajaBlanca - 5-1-2011 at 02:42 PM

woody - that is a nice pic ture looking south to Baja.

I am so sorry about the vehicle trouble and I am not sorry to say that La Bocana, miraculously, has zero wind this afternoon.

there are so many nice folk in BOLA, maybe wander over to the museum and make some new friends if it isn't too far ....

DENNIS - 5-1-2011 at 03:08 PM

WOW....it's blowin' "Lickity Splittly" here. Warm too.

Now....some of you know, some don't, about the origen of that term above.

tis a beautiful day in the 'hood, for sure....

God Bless Senor Blanco!

bajamigo - 5-1-2011 at 03:47 PM

The mechanic, Marcos Blanco, showed up as promised, removed the radiator, took it back to his shop, and returned within 3 hours with all repairs done. All for $100 (bargain at 3 times the price). We are now mobile again and will linger a while to see what a BOLA is.

And many thanks to you Nomads who offered helpful suggestions.

bkbend - 5-1-2011 at 07:20 PM

I second the recommendation for China's for a taco stand. Casa del Sol or Alejandrina's are decent for a larger meal. Sailflow shows the winds quieting down on Wednesday, if your around that long. btw los Vientos does mean wind so what were you expecting???

bigboy - 5-1-2011 at 08:10 PM

Casa del Sol gets a second vote!

Man-O-Man.....you guys are really lost. You're in the middle of TJ and the BOLA is the Culture Center.
Yep......lost......and confused.

Paulina - 5-1-2011 at 10:07 PM

You missed us by two days.

Glad to hear that you got your repairs done quickly.

Don't miss out on the museum. You might also check on the local art show, although it may have already ended by the time of this post.

Have a safe drive home. There are way too many cows on the road right now.

P>*)))>{

ps. regarding the wind, there's a reason why that resort is called "Los Vientos". The winds are totally different for those of us who reside south of town.

The Eagles! The greatest ever!

Well....count your lucky stars!

mcfez - 5-2-2011 at 06:59 AM

I'd rather be broken down there at BoLA than in California!

bajamigo - 5-2-2011 at 07:20 AM

We ate dinner last night at Las Hamacas - no complaints!

jadams - 5-2-2011 at 09:49 AM

I had carb trouble with my jeep at BOLA and Marcos rebuilt in 2hrs and charged $50.00. He is also a fishing guide and have gone out with him to chase yellowtail a couple of times. REAL NICE GUY!

Also, it's fun to mess around in the estuary down there when the water is coming in or out.

Is that still true? I heard that the access to non-residents had been closed definitevely. Oh wait ... we're talking about Mexico, aren't we?
