El Merendero del Lobo in Maneadero

offshore_day - 5-10-2011 at 02:14 PM

stopped for breakfast last week at "El Merendero del Lobo" located on the road to Bufadora just after turning off Mex 1. Looked fairly new and initially I thought it was a club or something. Went into the wood building and found many locals dining and a girl at the stove making hand made tortillas. Two of had breakfast, pescado machaca with papas, frijoles, torts, and coffee for 140 pesos. It was very good and would re-visit in the future

I don't know what I'm waiting for, but I have to try this place. It's had nothing but "Three Thumbs Up" since they opened a couple of months back.
It's said, three of the key employees came from the Jalisco restaurant down in Maneadero. perhaps there's a business relationship.
It used to be a liquor store for those of you who can't place where it is and liquor stores are good landmarks for Nomads.

I've been searching hi and lo for a translation of "Merendero." Can someone help me out?

For a translation of "Merendero"

Maybe local slang for a local from Maneadero? Just guessing.

My pocket version of the Random House Spanish Dictionary lists "Merendero" as "lunchroom" and the verb "merendar" as "eat lunch."

I was there about a month ago for breakfast and it is very good! I plan to revisit the restaurant the next trip down to our house.

how far from the turn? what time do they open? we usually push on to San Vicente for birria in the morning.......

Make the sweeping right turn toward the Buf and it's like 200 yards up the street, right side. Can't miss it.
I think they open around 7:00. I'll look into that and correct myself if mistaken.
