Latitude 38 has a thread on problems in PE regarding an "American Service Provider" and the folks at the marina..Interesting. You can see the thread at www.latitude38.com, read the one about the hangmans noose first.

Bump, for those who know...! What's up?

Here is the article in question, for those of you unfamiliar with finding articles in 'Lectronic Latitudes.

The article is very short on details, I must say. But Richard IS asking for factual accounts of person's experiences there. See the email link towards the bottom of the article.

And the follow up article is here. Lots more detail in this article, but it should be read second.

Hook, thanks for the links, made it easy to find/read. I'll be interested to read next week's issue to find out who the infamous "Mr. Y" is. My wife and I cruised the SOC (and points South) thiry years ago on our sailboat back when PE was just an undeveloped free anchorage with no facilities. Cruisers today don't know how good/easy they have it with all the resources available to allow them to cruise this beautiful area in relative ease and comfort. We now live on shore near Loreto and enjoy the area in a slightly different way, but still a great place to live.

I still think it's disappointing that you cant even anchor in the Waiting Room or anywhere in the inner harbor (or so I've been told, is that true?) because of the concession. There's nothing man-made about Puerto Escondido, save the improvements on land. But I hear you are now forced to hire a mooring or slip.

I last anchored there in the late nineties.

I sure love the crusers net in the morning in that area..fantastic source of info and weather.

scroll down on the 2nd Lectronic latitude link and read the story about a humback whale breaching on a sailboat...talk about a good example of Sh*t happens!!!!

yes, you can anchor in the Waiting Room or the Ellipse, the fees are lower than the inner harbor moorings and they go to API rather than Fonatur. those two areas are rather crowded with 'regulars' but generally you can find a spot.

the locals know who Mr Y is. I will wait until the follow up Lectronic Lattitue comes out to comment.

What? Someone who doesn't want to talk out his/her burro before all the facts are in? How refreshing.
