Last night my boyfriend asked me to find and send him some links about the allowable and not allowable food items. He'll be coming north in June. It's
easy to say just throw it all out but when you live in a camper and your whole life is in there it's not really feasible to do that. It's not like car
camping or having a place in Baja and then coming over the border with just a few items in the cooler. I had this one bookmarked http://www.cbp.gov/xp/cgov/travel/vacation/kbyg/prohibited_r... but also found this one https://help.cbp.gov/app/answers/detail/a_id/82 that gives more info on food for personal consumption, what you may actually have.
This one you can plug in the country and fruit or veggie and it will tell you if it's allowed. Or just put in Mexico and it gives you the whole list.

More unfortunately, it soon probably won't matter.

. Just be sure he has no fruit, potatoes, veggies or dog food (even unopened). We clear everything out before we cross . If it was not taken from us
then we know someone who gotten it taken away. then you are stuck there for who knows how long and often times fined!

For the past three years we have declared our U.S. dogfood (prescription-very low fat) as we entered Tecate. Back in Secondary the ag inspector
checked the bag, was very pleasant, and sent us home with the dogfood. He explained that Mexican dogfood could contain madcow, newcastle, etc. and
was not allowed in the U.S. We always leave some dogfood back home in case we lose it. Prior to 3 years ago I simply didn't declare it. Now that
could be good luck, well informed officials (3 different ag inspectors), full moon, or that I am an extremely nice guy. No generalizations can be
made from other's experience. Next year might be very different, but I'm still declaring the dog food,.
