This would be great if guests had the necessary encrypted cards....BajaGeoff - 5-18-2011 at 02:45 PM
My sister tried it out at Otay this week and said it worked well...not as fast as SENTRI but faster than the regular lanes. Hopefully San Ysidro gets
a couple or ten of these lanes soon....
It is important to note that only CARDS with the RFID will work......a regular passport book with the RFID chip does not!
I wonder if any one knows that if you have a 2 yr or older passport as a example ,can you have it reissued to a new one that has the RFID chip in it,
and do you have to pay a whole new fee for that new passport ?BajaGeoff - 5-20-2011 at 11:42 AM
It has to be a Passport CARD.....not a passport book!bajalou - 5-20-2011 at 03:29 PM

Don't know----
"CBPopened the new lane two weeks ago for vehicle users who have travel document cards that contain Radio Frequency Identification (RFID)
technology.Such documents include U.S. passport, SENTRI and new legal permanent resident and border crossing cards. Wireless
technology allows these cards to be read from up to 30 feet away, allowing for faster screening and processing of travelers."
But that would only be the newer ones with the chip.

Supposed to have been Oct 2006 when all new passports would have the chip.BajaGeoff - 5-23-2011 at 11:56 AM
Again....the whole sentence ends with the word CARDS...so it implies the following:
"Such documents include U.S. passport (cards), SENTRI (cards) and new legal permanent resident and border crossing cards"
We specifically went through the lane, tried it out and they said passport books with RFID chips are not accepted.
