Hwy 1

thefishaholic - 5-30-2011 at 02:02 PM

Some friends (2) just made the trip north from CSL and said lots of road work?

Can anyone enlighten us?

Thx

elgatoloco - 5-30-2011 at 02:24 PM

My guess is they are referring to the many areas where there is road work being done, hence "lots of road work". Of course I am just speculating. What were you thinking? :saint:

Where is road work?

thefishaholic - 5-30-2011 at 04:05 PM

Is there still the delay's between CSL and TS?

How about around Mulege?

Bajahowodd - 5-30-2011 at 04:14 PM

The highway between CSL and TS is still under construction. The good news is that North of TS, It's all completed.

Fundamentally, given the almost 1,000 miles of Mex 1, there will always be some amount of construction. Much of it is highway improvement; some of it is repair.

But, with the occasional exception where blasting of mountain sides is require for widening, such as just south of Maneadero, the delays are quite short.

a bg crew were resurfacing the highway around san bruno, san lucas to sta.rosalia ....even on sunday...weird thing is, this part of the road is excellent...wish they'd use some of that asphalt in the vizcaino-asuncion road!!

Came south through TJ last Sunday - Mex-1 was in very good shape almost all of the way to Mulege. There were a few spots where the road was rough but nothing like years ago where you could break an axle. The bridges are finished and it is a very nice ride all-in-all. Will be returning north this week and will give an update. Jim

Last Nov. I returned from La Paz and there was a lot of new bridge construction in Baja Sur. Road work north of Santo Tomas.

We drove down from So Cal to CSL in beginning of June and loved it. Driven this stretch dozens of times in the last 10 yrs. It gets easier year after year. I think the drive was wonderful last month. Hwy construction yes! But nothing that hurts the trip schedule. Did the usual 2 nights on the road. This time it was El Rosario & Constitution. Had lunch in Todos Santos before hitting the final stretch. Haven’t driven the peninsula in about a year and was very surprised to see how nice it is from La Paz to T.S. Hwy is beautiful. T.S to CSL has the largest hwy construction project in the entire peninsula right now. But they are moving fast. Every year has new bridges in areas that need them. The southern Baja hwy is slowly becoming storm proof. Flooded hwy will soon be a thing of the past. Arrived CSL before 2PM.
Hope this info is helpful.
C.H.

I liked it too, drarroyo! Good Sarcasm is a genre I appreciate. ;) It is hard to do without stepping over the line and being obnoxious.

Thefishaholic is a good sport, too. He came right back with specifics and didn't seem offended.:cool:

take most any 1000-mile-long hwy and you will find that roadwork/maintenance is aways occuring on some part.

there is road work, but probably not enough for you to get worried about. are you worried????

See "Trip report - Cabo to Otay Mesa" thread. I just came up, details there.

Drove from Loreto to Conception two days ago and it took well over 2.5 hours due to several stretches of road improvement. Once we turned the engine off for 25 minutes whilst we waited to be waved through! I'm driving back down to Loreto from Mulege on Thursday and so I'm hoping it might be a little faster then.:D

New pavement being installed for a few kilometers between El Rosario and Cataviña and ongoing road widening south of Ensenada. July, 2010.

Just got Back down---and I lived

Just got in to Cabo and we survived....LOL

Quicky road report.

A little road work at the old Military ck pt south of Meandanero.

10 Miles of wwwaaassshhhhbbboooaaaarrrd south of Catavina. Good Fajitas at Catvina tho.
Another 5 miles or so of rough side road north of Jesus Maria and at 8 miles an hour thought we were going over in a soft dip.

Flew up the grade south of Loreto. They are almost done and it was great.

Another 5 miles of rough side road south of Constitution from Cien (North of La Paz).

The road from CSL to TS had a couple minor areas.

Again another awesome drive down the Baja!!!:bounce::bounce::bounce:
