"Chica Nada" Mexican Ingenuity Part II

Gypsy Jan - 6-3-2011 at 06:49 PM

We got a crack on the windshield and dear husband was severely upset.

He couldn't find a replacement and was worried about the windshield exploding.

A Mexican friend said, "Let me glue on a copper penny to stop the crack."

It is two months later and the crack has not expanded.

Interesting.......Thanks, Jan.

It Really Worked

The crack and the glued on penny is on my side.

And I have watched it very carefully.

What else do I have to look at.

That doesn't work, if it hasn't expanded, its not because of the coin. In fact, if the windshield had any chance of getting repaired, the glue from that coin made it impossible now.

The next thing I'll hear is that wearing a copper bracelet doesn't relieve joint pain.

Yes. Jesse is right. Pep Boys sells a $10 window repair kit that injects a clear epoxy into the crack to seal it. But since you put glue in it, now the kit won't work. The glue will eventually decompose in the sunlight, and the penny does nothing.

Hey! At least you have the penny!

We could test this theory by pouring cool water on that windshield on a nice, hot BCS day. I was ignorant enough to wash one of my vehicles in such conditions once (without the penny, of course). It was almost fascinating to watch the crack zig and then zag on my windshield, apparently seaching for the longest way across.

Maybe some enterprising gringo will open a Pep Boys on the Baja, so you won't have to use pennys anymore.:tumble::spingrin:
