I am so glad you asked. In all my years on this board I don't think I have read a single post on the subject. Others may have their favorite Whale Shark meal but here is mine. I hope others will also post their favorite recipe for Whale Shark also.

I always serve my Whale Shark on a very large platter with dolphin fat reduced and infused with Amanita Muscaria mushroom sauce. I like to serve it under the star light on Conception Bay where one can often observe the luminescent glow of the waves crashing the shore as the plankton, the favorite food of the Whale Shark, as rub against each other to produce an amazing light show.

I find Whale Shark best served with a very cold vegetable salad gathered from fresh bales of greens one occasionally finds on the beaches of the Sea of Cortez. I like to use only fresh, local ingredients.

Since Tequila tends to overpower the subtle flavors of the Whale Shark as an apéritif I tend to serve an infusion of the tiny buds of the native cactus, Lophophora Williamsii, gathered in the early spring and blended with the splendid San Pedro cactus juice, if you can find it locally. The best source of the San Pedro is of course is Peru, but I am certain there are local cacti that would suffice.

I simply serve Tecate as the beer of choice with Whale Shark. There of course has been a real debate on this site as to which is superior with Whale Shark, some prefer Pacifico, but I don't want to start the beer wars again in this thread.

Since my guests are usually too far gone to appreciate an elaborate desert I have found that Snickers or Mounds bars are often a great hit, simple but elegant served on a small, plate size round of the spotted skin of the Whale Shark itself. I am a firm believer that one should not waste and part of game that one catches, especially a great fighter like the Whale Shark!

Their flesh is firm and resembles blue marlin in taste and texture. Any marinade and cooking technique that you use for marlin should be good for wale shark steaks. Let us know how they turn out....dt

I am adding a bit thick slathering of floatation, in this case oil of sarcasm, to my flies for these incredible fighting fish and the virtually hallucinatory meal I prepare with it. These fish are very dangerous and like the Great White, should be hunted to extinction!

SWMBO says that 'Oil of Sarcasm' is a pretty good replacement for KY jelly - is this true? Send me a couple of fluid ounces if you have any extra.

Santiago, all I have is Oil of Oldlay. Oil of sarcasm does not ship well and is often mistaken for expression of genuine sentiment and therefore tricky business.

The prop marks are crude attempts at steaking the beast. I too prefer the fillet.

Who would even question the sincerity of someone seeking out a recipe for Whale Sharks? How dare you impugn the motivation of Richbaja who has obviously landed one of these killers and is in need of suggestions for preparation? Rather than cast aspersions I suggest you offer some good advice on how to prepare his feast. After all this is rather a big animal and he does not have much time to dispatch it!

I checked my "Fly Fishing for Dummies" and can not find this technique. Is it similar to a spey? I'm guessing so as the best holes are always about 5' farther than I can reach.

Where is your recipe for whale shark? You do a heck of a rack of ribs, best I ever had.

Last time I tried my recipe I met Carlos Canstinada and Timothy Leary engaged in arm wrestling over who got to sit in the power spot. Both were very intense and displayed signs of distress. I then morphed the scene into vast kaleidoscopic molecular structures that I was able to navigate through and where I met a caterpillar who said "Lose your head". I decided that that was just too weird so I transmigrated into a butterfly and landed in a milkweed where I built a cocoon. I was much more comfortable there and having given it much thought concluded that I used too much amanita on the Whale Shark.
