BOLA weather

Tbone - 6-13-2011 at 08:01 AM

I’m heading down to BOLA on the 25th of this month and would sure appreciate it if someone would let me know what the daytime and nighttime temps have been lately.

Hook - 6-13-2011 at 08:08 AM

You dont need us.

Link.

If accurate, it seems like it's been a relatively low month for wind in BOLA.

116? that can't be right.

24baja - 6-13-2011 at 10:24 AM

We were there on 6-5 and it was 101 during the day. Have a blast!

What was the temp at night?

baja-ebonny - 6-13-2011 at 01:39 PM

It will be 120 the day you get there.

Pacifico - 6-13-2011 at 01:43 PM

I just returned a few days ago from that region. The weather was perfect - hot during the day with cool evening breezes! Subject to change of course!

Hook - 6-13-2011 at 01:47 PM

Yeah, I'm beginning to think that the temp sensor is subject to direct or near-direct sun.

While 116 is certainly possible at BOLA, the fact that it hit a high of 113.5 today and has dropped to 96 as we approach the hot part of the day seems very unlikely.

24baja - 6-13-2011 at 07:26 PM

not really sure, couple nights with no wind I'd guess betw 70-80.

Check into Del Sol. She keeps the rooms COLD.

August 2010, about 2PM

Thanks for the info.

Note to self: get more ice

larryC - 6-14-2011 at 06:38 AM

Not sure what it will be when you get here, but yesterday here in the south bay it was 88 deg in the shade and last night in the mid 70's. It is tending to warm up.
good luck

Thanks Larry We will be staying at Gecko, I just hope the generator will run the trailer A/C so we can sleep. I'm not worried about the heat during the day, bring it on, but I am concerned with it being too hot at night.

I'm not sure about the power sched at Gecko... BUT , this time of the year, a cheap-o ($20?) 10" battery powered fan like this has saved a couple camping trips for me. 8-D batteries & it will run on low for nights. (Hit your body up with a damp rag and you may even gET coOL!). I LoVe HeaT & employ the "bring it on" attitude as well. But at night, THATs when I need to refill the tank to do battle w/ the sun & beer another day. This assures me of that for cheap.. (although it usually just stays in the Box, in the back of the truck)...

I loved my O2 Cool fan. The one I had had ran off AC/12v/rechargeable batteries. Pretty quiet, too.

Unfortunately, after probably only 30 hours of operation, it quit. The SEALED Chinese motor just stopped. No way to fix it.

GrOUper-GAr - 6-14-2011 at 01:57 PM

true HOOK, they don't make thing like they used to.
(and I don't endorse a brand)
BUT,
I bet those 3-4 nights were goooood while it lasted

Santiago - 6-14-2011 at 03:58 PM

We have two O2 units at our place in Gecko and we get nearly a week out of 8 D Cells. You can also hook them up to a 12 volt battery. They are quiet and give a gentle breeze. They are quiet. You can still hear the pelicans dive at night. Real quiet. No problem hearing the coyotes. Nice and quiet, yeseree. You can hear Beach Bob snore over the sound this quiet fan makes. I heartily suggest you get a few. Nothing like the quiet enjoyment of the desert at night.

larryC - 6-15-2011 at 06:45 AM

Well yesterday it warmed up a bit, 102 in the shade, but cooled down to 77 at bed time. Good sleeping with just a cieling fan. So far.

Larry, where is that weather station in BOLA? Are those temps reliable or is the sensor in a bad position?

mcfez - 6-15-2011 at 10:57 AM

It's a great area to be! Please make sure that you pack PLENTY of water for the drive to BoLA. Not fun being broke down without cool water. Have fun dude!

Tbone - 6-15-2011 at 11:31 AM

Thanks everyone for the good suggestions. I have been to BOLA several times in the last 5 years, just never after May or before late September. If it is not to unbearable I would like to be able to sleep outside, otherwise I can sleep in the trailer with A/C.

larryC - 6-16-2011 at 07:39 AM

Last night was even a little warmer, 90 inside at bed time (85 outside) any warmer and I would have run the AC.
The weather station that I know of is on the roof at Mike Essary's house. Pretty much right out in the sun. If that is the one you guys are accessing then I would expect the temps to be high since there is no shade up there and the roof is probably radiating some heat.

Sounds like sleeping outside is not an option, OK plan B, sleep inside with the A/C cranked up naked on the kitchen floor, drunk.

Well i've got good news and I've got bad news. The good news is that it has cooled off today, down about 8 to 10 degrees. The bad news is that the humidity went from almost nothing to high humidity. Real sticky. I think I see an AC in my future.
Larry

larryC - 6-17-2011 at 06:36 AM

I was wrong, it cooled off enough that the humidity was not a problem so last night was very pleasant. So far so good. We'll see what happens today.

Thanks Larry, I'll keep my fingers crossed. We’re heading down 0 dark 30 this Saturday. Can't wait to jump into the bay.
