Moving down to Todos Santos in a few weeks. Want to import my truck in TJ, as I heard it would be easier there than doing it in BCS. Can anyone point
me in the right direction? Thankful for any help!

Alex67, At every border crossing there is a office of the Mexican goverment just for what you want to do. I can not quote you the exact taxes and fees
and they change often anyway but with a 1990 I do not think you will have much trouble or expense. I do know you will have to get a Mexican drivers
lisence.

I am going across the border Monday for a short time and I will ask for you if you are not near a border or a Mexican Consulate. A call to the
consul might be best as they usualy speak english if your spanish is weak.

I'm up in Thousand Oaks, Ca...far from border and consulates. I would greatly appreciate it if you would ask for me. I hear that it is a 3-4 day
process, but hope this is incorrect...

Not too say mine is much at all but Iv'e never had much trouble getting an ideal across which is a testement to Mexican language skills rather than my
own. My wife is 100% Cajun and after 43 years I know more Spanish than French!

I will drive down and get my Mexican DL in San Jose, and in a month or two drive back up and import the truck. Thanks for all your help!

Alex67, I didn't make it today and don't know when i will b able to. Why don't you just get an FM-3 and that way you can bring it down for a year at a
time with no extra tax, just renew the FM-3 every year?

...but I was planning on importing it so I could sell it to a local (Mexican) in Cabo. I want to bring my 04 Checy 4x4 down as it is better to take
clients around in with the fullsize cab vs. the Toyota's limited backseat.
I guess time will tell as far as what to do

I am NOT sure I would worry about importing your TOYOTA .....
It would make it
easier to sell it .... 
When I was in SANTA ROSALIA last year .... I girl bought an older model TOYOTA COROLLA right off the street with california plates ..... She wasn't
worried about the registration .... The LOCAL seller was going to take the ABC bus back to the states to buy another ... leaving later that night

Alex, maybe with you can with an FM-3, but generally foreigners cannot sell property in Mexico... JR? MRChuck? You would be taking away business from
Mexican used car salesmen, is the reason. Same reason you cannot bring desk tops or appliances across the border without high tariffs, unless under
the one time moving south to live rule.

Maybe I can have my Mex/Amer friend sell it for me if I pay the $15 to transfer the US title?
It is illegal to sell an American plated car in Mexico, and that includes Baja.

David K is correct.
Many American/ Canadian tourists travel down on an FM-T quality immigration document, and then attempt to sell their car. On the Mainland Mexico side,
one MUST get that temporary import sticker put on their car to enter, and this has stopped a lot of the illegal car sales over there.
Baja Cal and Baja Cal Sur, are both "frontera states" and presently don't require this temporary import sticker for cars.
But it is still highly illegal for a "tourist" to sell their personal car in Mexico(Baja).
All cars entering, to be sold, must get their sales importation papers in Tijuana. But many Mexican citizens "know someone" in the Government that
can do an "illegal deal" for a mordida price.
This is what happens here in and around the tip of Baja.
Many cars down here are just given to Mexicans, and the Mexicans always seem to get a license plate for them.
So, make your own choices,,,

If you advertise the U.S. plated vehicle for sale it is subject to confiscation.
