May have room for passenger to Loreto

Driving to Loreto and back in October and may be going solo. I would rather have a passenger along. Plan to drive all the way down in one day, and same with the return a week later. If there are any non-psycho types, also non smoker who may need a ride at that time, let me know.

I guess writing about where I am leaving from might help! Leaving from San Diego. I am meeting friends who are flying down same day. I will meet up with them and we are leaving next morning for some fishing in Lopez Mateos. Boat situation requires I get there that day. Family situation here requires that I have limited time away from home.

Can't wait for October to come. Plan to leave SD just before sunrise.

Sparetime......That is a real long drive for one day, and if you are thinking about sharing driving with somebody you don't even know who accepts your offer of a ride south, you are a much braver man than I.
I drove from Loreto to Lopez Mateos this week for a load of scallops. There is a lot of construction on Mex 1 in the mountains between Loreto and the top of the ridge. I had delays both ways. And, the road from Insurgentes to Lopez is as bad as I've seen it this time of year with pot-holes so deep and close together in several places that traffic has been diverted to the sand along the roadway.
In October I will be commuting to Lopez Mateos whenever the wind is down. If you persist in this folly, get in touch as the time draws nigh and I will give you a current report on conditions, for both driving and fishing.
I hope you figure out a way to spread the trip over two days. You would surely be much more likely to both survive the adventure and enjoy the fishing......

STW: That alone should dictate that you heed the advise of your fellow Nomads who are telling you from experience that your plans for 1 day travel are risky to the point of reckless. If not for your own safety - for the sake of your family... Take two days for the trip and arrive home alive!

I appreciate the concern and suggestions. I have driven a lot in baja, and have also done several solo trips to Colorado in the 15 hour range. Though have not done a one day trip to Loreto, did a one day trip to Mulege last year that was easy for me. The hours of driving don't worry me, but do not want to drive at night. I figure I will have 13 hrs of daylight, possibly 14. Figuring 14- 15 hours to Loreto from SD? Does that sound accurate to you frequent baja drivers? Not certain I am going to do this, and that is why I am sending out feelers for possible passengers and advise. Thanks, keep it coming.

I have done it more then once its a hard drive. I cross the border around 2:00am stop for an hour or two around 10:00 am to shut my eyes. Then drive the rest of the way.
One year I drove straight through to Loreto. We rolled in around 10:00pm got up at first light and went fishing it was well over 100 degrees. We fished the next day, got done fishing around noon packed up and drove all the way back to LA in 18 hours I do all the driving my wife doesn't drive.

mulege = 14 hours

loreto is 1 1/2 more

the road is fine

To those who think it is just a 14 hour drove to Mulege...

Consider all of the possibilities when you come around a curve and your going 70-80 mph. and there right in front of you is a car with the left turn signal on. It could actually be making a left turn! It might not be telling you to just whip on by, as really it can't even see if it is safe for you to pass. Might just be some nice people on their way to Play Perla for a snorkel. Two idiots with California plates just flew by me one day, and my friends and I-- and those jerks-- are lucky not to have died that day.

So drarroyo's advice is good. allow an extra half day-- live and let live.

Add me to the list that take the safer plan and take 1.5 days to go to Loreto.

I drive a lot. I, like many many others have had way to many close calls that have been avoided by having responsive reflexes and slower, safer driving.

Its 13 hrs door to door from my house in US to my house in Chivato. Do it all the time, no big deal. 2-3 times a month safely.

I was wondering when and I was wondering if you already have found a partner for the ride?

I suspect I would be very lucky if your time matches when I can go but you never know.

I have driven to Loreto in one day and back from Loreto in a day but they were summer days. I usually get a later start than I plan and stop in San Quintin (I know it is not even half way). San Quintin has best beach combing for sand dollars anywhere I have been and cheap but fine accomodations for a beach area.
