Possible Storm

Russ - 6-19-2011 at 08:13 AM

Only a depression now but appears to be heading towards land and maybe some warm water. If this does as predicted it could really mess with our Dorado tournament if it sends a swell our way on Saturday. Oh well, it won't be the first time and the parties and festive attitude will still make for a great weekend.

When Osprey leaves his beach house, I know it's time to GTFOOT!

Osprey - 6-19-2011 at 06:31 PM

This little village no longer has a handle on whether we're gonna get bad storms or not anymore since Bernardo died about 2 years ago. When, in years past, he foretold we would be getting clobbered he would take the tin roof off his house and store it inside the house, sleep in the desert. Bernardo was one with Mexican reality and I miss him. Now I live, if not in fear, in a state of uncertainty about my future.

i love guys like Bernardo......

GTFOOT?

Us being the people on the Jalisco coast. Check the storm track this morning. That doesn´t look like the middle of the ocean to me.

1130 local time in Manzanillo, just overcast and not much wind. The waves are no larger than normal. Just waiting for the rain to begin.

Thanks for that Shari. I´m running around right now getting supplies. It looks like tommorrow should be the worst starting late tonite. Should be interesting.

Barra was hit pretty bad in the '90s. Lots of damage and much of Barra was flooded. Maybe get up to Colima, Chippy.:light: Good luck!!

wessongroup - 6-20-2011 at 02:26 PM

Thanks Tone. Believe me I´ve been thinking about heading there or maybe Autlan. I´m just worried I won´t be able to get back for awhile. My house will handle anything the wind can throw at it, its flooding I´m more concerned with. So I think I´ll stick around and mop up.

Thanks Wesson.

stanburn - 6-20-2011 at 03:36 PM

just walked down to the beach in Manzanillo. Still not much wave activity. It's blowing about 20 knots and I have seen 16 here at the house 5 blocks inland. The clouds are still really high and doesn't look like rain is close.

I have some construction going on and the foundation trenches are dug with rebar in them and piles of dirt surrounding. We will see how much dirt is washed back in.

chippy - 6-20-2011 at 03:46 PM

Hey stanburn I think you´ll find out tonite. Same here with the wind 24 mph with higher gusts. I don´t think we will see large surf until tues. am.
Good luck. Stay dry.

Chippy,

If you need any tips on flood cleanup (I hope you won't need them), I have plenty of experience, being on the Mulege River. Seriously, if it comes to that, shoot me a U2U. My house has withstood three of them and has cleaned up like new.

I said "cleaned up"; not rebuilt. Rebuilding is not what one should do if a house is destroyed., but if it is still intact, a good cleanup is all that is needed. I have plaster walls. Those with sheetrock need to tear that out.

If you do retreat to higher ground you should be able to get back pretty quickly after the storm passes. You have time before mold sets in. I think looting is the main concern, behind keeping yourself and family safe.

chippy - 6-20-2011 at 05:05 PM

Wow ! We just got some rain. Along with with wind, lighting and thunder. It was enough to make me scurry around and put light weight things away. Things like tarps and plasticos on top of my bodega. My aluminum ladder. After battening down the hatches its all calm and peacefull. No rain no wind. But I know whats coming.

baja1943 - 6-27-2011 at 03:00 PM

Chippy, are you still there? How about a update?

chippy - 6-27-2011 at 03:06 PM

It was so anti climatic that I forgot to post. We got maybe a half an inch of rain and 32 mph breeze. I did alot of work for that wimpy little storm.

Eli - 6-27-2011 at 03:13 PM

Chippy, it is so much better to button down for a big storm and nothing happens than not prepare and get blown away. Take it from me, I have done both.
