TOLEDO IN A STORM

Espaņa
In 2007 after a visit to my father's birthplace in the western provence of Caceres in Estremadura we drove east to Toledo and checked into a Parador that sits atop a hill across the river from the city. This Parador was a midlevel convent where legend has it El Greco painted his famous "Toledo in a Storm" sometime around 1600.
My overexposed image scanned from a print was taken from our balcony, does not show the river or the bridges just out of view. In his painting El Greco moved the Cathedral closer to the Alcazar. Some other buildings are reconcilable now, and I think one of the bridges survives to this day.

One of my favorite cities in Spain...boy has it grown since 1998! As we drove up the hill to the older part of town I remember the very small windy roads. We had to pull in our side mirrors so they would not scrap on the buildings and we were in the typical small European car. I have great memories of wonderful "tapas and vino". The hubby brought back a very nice sword that now hangs in his man cave/billard room.

Thanks for the pic. By chance did you make it to Granada?

Never made it to Granada. I plan to go back to Caceres someday soon and spend some time with my family there and in Salamanca. I may talk one of my Spanish speaking cousins to come along to translate.
