I know that this has been discussed before but lets talk about it again.
I've been wanting to get a good pellet rifle to take to MX as I understand that I am allowed to have one. I was fortunate to get one for Father's Day
and now that I have one I'm a bit concerned about the rules pertaining to having and using it in Baja. This thing is the real deal, powerful, hand
checkered stock, variable power scope, .177 caliber, not a toy. The last thing I want to do is get in trouble with it or get it taken away by someone
with a bigger gun and uniform.
So, tell me what you know. What does the law say about it? Has anyone had FIRST HAND experience with a pellet gun and the law or military? Do I need
to declare it somewhere or get some sort of permit? What about hunting with it, can I shoot quail or rabbits (assuming I could hit one)? I have an
FM2, does it matter what my immigration status is?

I walked all the way down Baja with one in plain sight and was checked by the military on many occasions. No problem, they are completely legal in
Mexico as a matter of fact they sell them in the Wal Marts there. Just keep it out of sight at the border because you never know how they might react.DENNIS - 6-19-2011 at 09:22 PM
They sell pellet guns in the super markets here although I wouldn't suggest hanging it on a gun rack in the cab of your truck. They might just shoot
first and ask questions later.
If this situation were mine to deal with, I think I'd disassemble it for the trip down just in case someone came across it in a search. The momentary

DT, I'm not good with math but I seem to remember the limit on caliber is 5.5 in Mexico. (5.5 cms?) Don't know how that relates to your .177. Somebody

While driving back to the states 2 weeks ago I asked 2 different Federal Police Officers and 1 military stop about a high powered 177 cal air rifle
and they all said it was fine to import an air rifle in fact one cop said in Mexico air rifles are treated like toys....hope this helpsDENNIS - 6-20-2011 at 07:34 AM
Air rifles come in two calibers.....177 and .22. If there is a restriction on the books, it will be for the .22.

Well...I'll be gawdammmed. I can only find the two at Cabela's and I thought they had it all.

I brought one down, put it right on top of everything in plain sight and never even had the box opened at any of the checkpoints. The one I have has
interchangeable barrels, one .177 and the other .22.

Will a powerful .177 caliber spring or air rifle or gun be illegal if it is NOT a single shot firearm, that is to say, is the above described firearm
illegal in Baja if it is automatic or semi-automatic?
Also, I am looking for a Mexican-legal powerful quality pellet hand gun, spring or air powered, semi-automatic (definitely not single shot) for under
$150, if such a thing exists. I obviously know squat about guns. Any recommendations?

Mine is a Diana model #52 .177 with a 2-7 power scope. I am blown away by the power and accuracy of this thing. It would be a deadly weapon at close

I think you would have to put a kid through law school and he could make it his life's work to research this and get to the bottom of it. That's the
only way anybody will ever really know the facts. That would include the police.
