I NEED TO BUY A COMPUTER Cape Region

DavidE - 6-22-2011 at 10:37 AM

I went to Sam's and Costco and wow-wee, even NetBooks are 160% costlier than in the states and then 11% I.V.A. is added onto that.

I am writing an e-book for a print publication and I need to have a computer at "home" so I can spend hours on it searching for the elusive "muse".

I brought with me, a CPU, an AMD 2-core, an 18" LCD monitor, a keyboard and that's about it. Netbooks have a ten inch screen and my poor eyes are just not up to the task of reading tiny word processing font. Arthritic fingers seem to hit three keys at once. Desktop computers start at five thousand pesos plus (way out of my league) and laptops are even pricier yet.

Really the only thing I need is a basic PC desktop with a reasonably fast processor, 1GB or less of RAM, no more than 200GB of storage, useful USB ports, Microsoft Windows meaning WORD, and an ancient Windows XP will work just fine. A box minus CP meaning I can plug-in my AMD doble nucleo would be a godsend. Again, I do not need a monitor, or keyboard. But I do need reliability, and something not fit for a time-capsule (obsolete).

Am I dreaming that I could find something like this for say, twenty-five hundred pesos? I am going to need to get something that I can plug a Banda Ancha wireless USB module into.

Just a heads up....unless you're able to find a used unit brought down by a gringo, all the new PC's sold here come with all Espanol systems software. When my PC died, I went online & ordered one from Dell. It was manufactured in TX, loaded with English software & shipped down here, took about a month. For what it's worth!
