New Immigration Law Passed Last Month

elskel - 6-25-2011 at 09:42 PM

Hola to All: Does anyone have any information on the new Immigration Law passed last month. From what I have read, FM2's and FM3's are out.
Thanks Brian

Nothing was said to us when we started our renewal on May 27th @ the CSL INM office. We were told it would take three weeks...still do not have our renewal cards.

We are going to the INM office on Tuesday to find out what is the problem. Hope our files haven't gotten lost in the process! Last entry on the INM website was 30/05/2011.

For what it's worth, check out this analysis of the new law:

Our renewals are in there too. With the changes, we will probably need new pictures....taken standing on our heads.

I was planning on starting the FM2 process in three weeks. Now it looks like I will be waiting a few months to start the new process.

we had a visit by immigration to our business this past week and they said that the names have changed but the process is the same .... whatever that means.

I would be interested to hear from anyone, trying to start the process in the next couple of weeks.

Permanent residency can also be granted to concubines after 2 years of Mexican bliss (as a part of the 2 years of Temporary Residency).
Article 55, Item III

I'd better get down there early to start working on this.:coolup:

Seems a bit one sided... nothing open for male's ... along these lines...

Good luck tone.... with your efforts :):)

OOps! I read it wrong. I thought if I found a concubine who offered "2 years of Mexican Bliss", I could achieve permanent residency status. Guess not, huh?

FM 2 this month in Loreto office. 10 Days from application to lamination, no problems, no apparent changes.

Does the card say FM2 or Imigrante?

FM2 card

tehag - 6-27-2011 at 10:13 AM

Inmigrante, FM2 does no appear on the card. FM2 is still the designation on some forms.

Just picked up my new FM-2 this morning. I couldn't detect any change in the system from my experience from a year ago, when the big news was the new ID card replacing the little booklets and I no longer had to provide them with a copy of my bank statements.

What I had to provide this year:

1) The Internet-generated form that you go online to INM's website to fill out and print.

2) A short letter saying that, "bajo protesta de decir la verdad," I certified that nothing had changed in my status under which the original FM-2 was issued.

3) Three front and two profile photos, "tamaņo infantil" (infant size), white background and in color.

4) A form that they gave me at the office on my first visit on Monday to fill out and return.

5) The statement-of-payment that the bank provides when you give them your 2,801 pesos (ALWAYS make a copy of this form for your files, once they temporarily lost my original at the INM office and I hadn't).

I also had to turn in my old ID as well as provide them with my passport so they could check the accuracy of the info I provided.

Oh, yeah, and this year at the La Paz office, we actually had to take a number while waiting. The machine has always been there, but I'd never seen it in use before.

Good luck.

I am starting the process in a couple of weeks, sounds like it is status quo. At least until the Federal Government gives the local offices some direction.

Just picked up my new FM-2 card yesterday in La Paz. My experience was exactly the same as Bajatripper's description above. The new computerized system appears to be going very smoothly. I also did not have to provide a "comprobante de domicilio" - just state your address in your letter and declare that it's true ("baja protesta de decir la verdad"). The whole process took about 10 days from the time I turned in the proof of payment statement from the bank.

The one hassle with the new system is that since you get a new laminated card every year, you need to provide photos for the new card. I happened to have extras from last year and used those with no problem.
