Identify this Baja California site

That same mission in December, 2001

In the top photo, 29 years ago, a wide arroyo can be seen beyond the tree (which was growing in the center of the mission floor). That arroyo expanded and only a few of the foundation mortar blocks remain down in the arroyo, as seen in this picture.

Another shot of the site...

The large round stone is actually a chunck of foundation that used to be part of the remains in the top photo posted by AA.
This photo shows the now wider arroyo. Unless the local people moved the remains, this mission may be gone forever!

Clue

These were the oldest mission ruins in Baja California, until they were washed away in 2001.

An oldest mission would seem to be in the south of the peninsula but it looks strangely mid-peninsular.......a longshot guess--Calamue?

A very long guess.

Not Calamajue, which dated to the year 1766 at the end of the Jesuit tenure in the Peninsula. The photo shows the ruins of San Juan Bautista Malibat y Ligui, occuped between 1705 and 1721.

Calamajue Jan. 2002

Calamajue was the first site for Mision Santa Maria. It lasted here only 7 months as the abundant water was way too saline to grow crops. Just melted adobe walls mark the buildings there, not too far from Coco's Corner, on a terrace above the river across from where the auto road decends to the river.

Another Calamajue building ruin

This photo is pointing towards the river and beyond to the opposite bank where you can see the road from Coco's coming down. Just right of the road (behind the small cardon) is a large gold ore mill ruin on that side once operated by Dick Daggett, 100 years ago. Good story in Arthur North's 'Camp and Camino in Lower California that was based here.
