Being an experienced parent (!) .......I was wondering this about the Nomads out there......what is the top five food items for the kids......you take for trips to Baja.?

Kraft Marconi and Cheese
Trix
Doritos
Bananas
Home made Nestle's chocolate chip cookies

Seriously, when camping it has always been easy with burgers, hot dogs, beef stew, cereal, sandwiches...

When staying at L.A. Bay, or when in any towns they loved tacos (Chris ate fish tacos and Sarah ate carne asada tacos or quesa-tacos).

McFez, I could not help but note that bananas & Doritos can be obtained at any little roadside Changada along your way. The trix and macaroni & chesse at most grocery stores in Mexico.
The homemade chocolate chip cookes, for sure should always be brought. :bounce:

I think the chocolate chip cookies should be made with m&m's. Keeps the chocolate from melting, gluing the cookies together, getting all over the kids and the vehicle.

One mom's opinion. :biggrin:

I am highly suspicious of you and McFez----both claiming that these cookies are for the kids---ya right! :lol:

Oh yeah, now I remember, I would for sure bring from the states for "the kids", a gallon of Hoody natural peanut butter. We can get funky Skippy's down here, but good natural peanut butter is " a find".

In the past when I have flown from Baja to Mainland Mexico with my grandson, I for sure included in my suitcase a small jar of Skippys, (cause I couldn't get the good kind) + in our carry-on peanut butter & jelly sandwiches, woudn't dream of traveling with him without it.

The cookies, don't forget the cookies....homemade of course.

My sobrina (from Cabo) just had a beautiful wedding on the beaches of Cabo, and she requested that I bring down cookies for "recuerdos" to give out to the wedding guests.
We flew down (which is a tale I'll relate later), but cookies and crumbs made it to Cabo just in time for the wedding!!

My in-laws down south always want me to bring down cookies and quick breads that I make...I think they are afraid of their ovens in Mexico!

For the kids I may bring some granola bars or fruit roll-ups or something, but as stated above we go to Mexico for the good foods!

My American niece was down there with us and she had her list of places/items to eat: Sopes (with the senoras up the hill), Tortilla Soup from Pollo de Oro, and Papas from Paisas Tacos.....I will say we fulfilled her list, and even threw in the pan from La Princessa Panaderia! (All Cabo San Lucas favorites of ours)!

We usually have requests of what to bring back with us: tortillas de harina, bread from the bakery, and Queso Ruffles...plus assorted chile flavored candies!

Bimbo sells these tiny doughnuts covered with powdered sugar. They can't be much over 1 inch across. They come in a blue roll.

We love em.

I have them for breakfast and he eats them all day (as the urge rises).

And the nice thing about anything Bimbo - never ever does it go bad. Bread and pastries may dry out a bit more, but anyone who has left part of a loaf of that bread in their camping gear knows that months later there is still no mold on it. Although with your son eating "as the urge arises", Igor, you've likely never had that experience.

My Mother-in-Law won't get on the bus out of town without my Toll House Chocolate Chip Cookies and Mississippi Mud Brownies with Jack Daniels. For some reason people in Mexico really enjoy something homemade and chocolate to go with their instant coffee.

Yup, they are afraid of ovens. True story- Our first Thanksgiving we blew our 36" gas range right out of the counter and off the cabinetry. We were using the oven for the first time. Everyone was fiddling with the controls and then they called me over to show them how it starts. I put my hand on the oven knob and said "You turn and press this knob down and then push the igniter switch like..." BOOOM. They had already filled the oven with propane. I looked like Wiley Coyote standing there with all the smoke and pebbles of safety glass on the floor and counter, still holding the oven knob with no oven attached to it. It was loud and the neighbors came running thinking our propane tank had exploded. After we realized no one (me) was hurt, we put the oven back up on it's base, cleaned up the glass and still used the cook-top to salvage dinner. I glued the talavera tiles back and we still don't use that oven, just the cooktop. That's why Mexicans hate ovens.

oh yeah- Choc Chip Cookies, Cheerios, Oreos, Trail Mix, and twinkies.

Mac & cheese, frozen pizza and wifi, they will be happy. Kids don't necessarly want to do the same things as the adults, some get it, some don't, my son didn't, now he regrets it. Good luck.
