Gm Nomads.......Anyone travel the road to SJ from San Ignacio lately? Gracias

A week ago! Whadda u wanna know? The regular road is still gnarly washboard.

The middle road is " the sand highway" and is 4wd unless you know how to drive in the sand and that drops into El Datil.

My preferred route is then tidal flats .... Flat and fast before and after El
Datil, but you sort of need to know your direction heading to El Datil...unless you are GPS friendly and then you're go to go...

We did 2 hours 15 min in a Ford Excursion with FOX Shox on the way south and a week later we did 2:40 on the way north...with a stop to visit at El Datil

are you GPS friendly? you would like the flat and smooth Tidal Flats road before and after El Datil..then a short sand section that would be easy with the Lance & 4WD...then slow going washboard the rest of the way...

the thing is right now is the other road inbound from Insurgentes is JUST AS BAD due to road construction...

We are GPS friendly........just need to add baja to our Garmin.....Never used in Baja.....Muchas Gracias.

Drove to SJ 6/18 via Insurgentes. I've heard that the road via La Purisima has been graded in the last year and is good if your looking for a short cut. We drove north out of Insurgentes as we didn't have the vehicle or the guts to try La Purisima. Good luck.

We did the road south from San Ignacio to San Juanico on July 6th. We should have taken the lower road, although the higher road gave us quite the adventure. It took us just a tad longer than it took Desert Bull...We left S.I. at 9:40 am and pulled into S.J. at 3:40pm. Six hours of beautiful back country, rough road, silt, had to get out a couple of times to pick the best route.

We did it in our F350 4WD, (new Fox shocks), Grandby 4wheel pop up camper, towing a military trailer and quad, oh and two dogs.

We'll take the lower road next time.

Back in Bahia for now.

Shameless ged, but a great memory. Seems that you mentioned once that you didn't like riding in sand or silt, perhaps you should practice doing it when you get the chance, you know, seize your demon by the horns and defeat it like you did in that nasty rock section...oh wait, you fell down there too...never mind. Next time we go to Baja I say we camp out there for a few days and ride up and down that road.......conquering demons will set you free :lol:

Oh....okay.....I will do that right after I practice hitting myself on the head with a ball-peen hammer to figure out how to do it so it doesn't hurt :lol:

just an addition to the fleet...set up close to the off road Dodge, but just not quite the same as that Dodge has 37-inch tires and trussed axle housings, big shocks valved to perfection, kand as you know so much more...I only really use the off road Dodge in Baja nowadays,

The Excursion is like an off road limo that can seat 5-6 people and gear comfortably and still get down the road with the A/C going...it has BFG 35's, Method Wheels, Lowrance GPS, 2-Kenwood 2 Meter radios, Bypass Shocks, Deaver Springs, bigger fuel cell, front light bar...and a FridgeFreeze mounted inside the right rear doors. It's pretty good for the taking clients south of the border....at least they seem to like it

Thanks for asking.....the ankle is the part that hurts now....it seems that such injuries can take a few years to "get as good as they are going to get"....so I have some time for the final review :biggrin:

A fellow rider who has had a similar injury says that he now has to get a larger shoe to fit his foot....so buys shoes two pairs at a time :wow:

So....things could be worse.

I have been riding the bike since May so it isn't the end of my motorcycling career. DT, my riding partner at the time, insists it was the skirt I was wearing that was the real reason for the crash :lol:

....but he spends too much time looking for tiny blue fish on his beach at his place at Buena Vista and has probably spent too much time in the sun without a hat covering his cue ball.... so his opinion is "not to be trusted" (as he once told me...:cool
