Houses of Bahia Muertos

BajaBruno - 7-11-2011 at 10:30 PM

A long time ago I promised to share some photos of the mansions at Bahia Muertos on the East Cape (now called Bay of Dreams); however, I've been lazy and resizing and posting photos is not my strength...let's see if I can do this without emailing David K. ...

I lingered off the beach for a while, but none of these folks saw fit to invite me in for an icy beer.

Quite a spread here.

This palace was still under construction when I was there--it may be finished now, and was supposedly owned by an Oklahoma oil well owner. I'm happy to know that someone is having fun with the dollars I drop into the fuel pump.

A short trip, but hopefully you enjoyed it. If this actually works, maybe I'll try it some more. Sorry about the file sizes, and I have no idea why I have so much white space between photos...

beautiful homes!
nothing tragic about it.

Natalie Ann - 7-12-2011 at 12:19 PM

Thanks for posting these, Christopher. I've often wondered just how grand those homes might be.

The financial and cultural gap between those living in Los Planos
and those living in Bahia de, ahem, Suenos:rolleyes:
is growing in leaps and bounds.

Or owned by a Saudi or Iranian oil tycoon.

ElCap - 7-12-2011 at 12:47 PM

Here's the 'Marketing Master Plan' of Bahia Muertos, I mean Bahia Suenos. For those of us who don't see this type of development compatible with Baja, and those who have been to this particular area prior to the beginning of this development, we might just want to call it Bahia Suenos de Muertos.

Jack Swords - 7-12-2011 at 01:37 PM

Hey, Capt. Mike, they have their own paved airstrip, 24 hour guard at the airstrip. The plans run over to the old hotel that has been closed for years after some hurricane damage. Beautiful beach, nice diving, great view. Beach at the old hotel is used by pangueros. Muertos bay is used as a jumping off (waiting for weather window) spot by cruisers crossing the Sea to Mazatlan, etc.

[Edited on 7-13-2011 by BajaNomad]

bajalou - 7-12-2011 at 03:11 PM

shari - 7-12-2011 at 03:16 PM

BajaBlanca - 7-12-2011 at 03:25 PM

rhintransit - 7-12-2011 at 03:28 PM

can't see them on my Mac, either...
would like to, though, can someone repost them?

DianaT - 7-12-2011 at 03:32 PM

The pictures are working with Google Chrome---lots of space between them, but they are there, and Bajalou's is there---just bigger.

Big houses!

Just tried Firefox and Internet Explorer and both worked---strange.

Maybe. Big brother does not want you to have too much contact with the outside world.

Those of you that can't see the pics are on an ISP that reports to be out of Mexico. Lou's ISP reports out of the USA even though it appears to be a Baja-company.

Doug

Roberto - 7-12-2011 at 06:25 PM

Doug is right on. FYI, I see it just fine on a Mac with either Firefox or Chrome.

bajaking76 - 7-12-2011 at 06:28 PM

You folks that can’t see the pictures can try hitting the compatibility View icon (looks like a broken page next to your browser bar). See if that fixes it.

Doug or Roberto, being computer experts, can either of you (or anyone else) explaing why the photos are narrow with the wide blank space between them? The size is 800 x 600, but only a small part of the 600 area is photo.

bajalou - 7-12-2011 at 08:08 PM

I think the pictures were take with a "Panoramic" setting. ??

BajaBruno - 7-12-2011 at 09:28 PM

These photos were about 3GB each when I took them off the camera, so I cut off the tops and bottoms to reduce the bandwidth. Maybe that contributed to the white space issue.

Doug, the website they are stored on is mine--are you saying that my hosting company is denying access to out of country ISP's? I have visitors from Europe and Asia.

Maybe those who can't see the photos can try to load them directly:

Bruno, I can't get those URLs/site to open from here....it times out....when all else fails....send them to my personal e-mail address? Thanks!

Pretty much looks like that's the case for many of those in Mexico at a minimum.

BajaBruno - 7-12-2011 at 10:58 PM

Thanks, Doug. I'll check into it.

I'd appreciate it if someone with a Mexican ISP could try to access www.desksgt.com and see if you can connect. That is my root page.

And Legs, I'll send them to you.

Can't see any either

rhintransit - 7-13-2011 at 06:31 AM

thanks, McFez, I see them now. dunno why not the first post...

Skipjack Joe - 7-13-2011 at 06:41 AM

There is white space between images because each image is 2/3 white which blends with the nomad page background.

capt. mike - 7-13-2011 at 06:43 AM

what is the status of the hotel? and pista?

Yes...there is. I just re sized...not altered

The white space is from a para shot I believe.

Got them!! Thankfully, McFez had already posed them.

I tried to get into various configs of the URL & all failed....then I Googled just 'desksgt', got several search results, saw one I could identify as yours & several attempts to get in via that route also failed this AM.

This concludes the results of our test..... ;)

Bill Collector, You can't even see the pics McFez posted in the post directly above yours??

After trimming the pictures, they are posted as800x600 in size,so something has to fill in that area.

A tiny program called "Fast Image Resizer" that I use will re size groups of photos to the size you wish. Putting them back in a new folder "resized" in the same folder you have the originals. Then they can be uploaded to web for linking. Fast and easy,(for me anyway)

bajalou - 7-13-2011 at 07:35 AM

McFez copied the pictures to a different ISP source, ie. Photobucket which is why his show up worldwide.

Correct Lou...Photobucket

Photobucket is really a easy way to go if you are not a Einstein with other software.

Anyone here needs a fast tutor on Photobucket.....I can walk you thru it. Takes 10 minutes

Hey Lou...any interesting treks lately?

BajaBlanca - 7-13-2011 at 02:18 PM

thanks mcfez !! I see the mansions and boyyyy are they nice !

bajabruno - I could NOT load them directly ... I tried ...

shari - 7-13-2011 at 08:43 PM

thanks for the shack photos Fez....
bajabruno....your site wouldnt load for me down in asuncion...hmmm

bajalou - 7-13-2011 at 08:45 PM

Some sites block Mexico ISPs.

That's what I thought, Lou, but I've been communicating with my hosting company and they insist they do not block Mexican ISPs. I'm convinced of that because my web stats show hits from Mexico. I sent them the trace-route print-out from a La Paz nomad, which seems to show that the connection died before it left Mexico.

I'm guessing it has something to do with Prodigy.MX blocking some US websites (though it is hard to imagine why they would block a criminology site), or maybe an outdated DNS, but I'll wait for the techies to weigh in with the final report...

rhintransit - 7-14-2011 at 03:45 AM

okay, I just activated my ISP hotspot shield blocker and, ta da, can see the original post photos. can someone explain why the photos are identified as 'foreign' and the text isn't?

Marc - 7-14-2011 at 06:46 AM

The site images are way better than the original post.

Marc on a Mac in NorCal

BajaBruno - 7-14-2011 at 11:10 PM

rhintransit, no clue. The photos are hosted on a Los Angeles server and I believe Nomads is on an Atlanta, Georgia server. Come to think of it, maybe LA is 'foreign'.
But, the Hotspot Shield Blocker program is interesting, and may be a solution for Prodigy users who are having trouble connecting to some websites.

sancho - 7-15-2011 at 12:00 PM

BajaBruno, Thanks for the memories, back in
the day, '87-90' spent a few months in and out
of Muertos, camping on the just to the right of the
hand cleared panga launch ramp, fun times indeed.
Dorado in 6' of water off the point. Was a fisherman
family, Castro, I believe, living there. An Old gringo
Tom living in a trailer. Those were the days

acadist - 7-15-2011 at 07:02 PM

My favorite local captain Pancho has told me that the one of those (I will not disclose which one:P) is a porno set:lol:, I did not see any filming but the joke of the week was ' guns' bad, porno good!'........you had to be there:lol:

comitan - 7-15-2011 at 07:36 PM

sancho, The old gringo would be roadkill Tom he had a burger joint in Montana and as far as the Castro's there was Arturo, Juan, and Jose, there was a younger brother but he died. How do I know, was there every winter 1984 to 94. You probably were at one of our potlucks also have many pictures of those days if there are any Nomads that were there stop by many good times.

BajaBruno - 7-15-2011 at 11:21 PM

Sancho, this is right next to the current launch ramp:

and here is another of the mansions.

acadist - 7-16-2011 at 03:19 AM

That's not the one........

I'm getting the photos just fine here in La Paz. Sorry to see those grass lawns in a region of Mexico really hurting for water. Nothing like conspicuous consumption. On the plus side, since they're running water lines and electrical wires out from Los Planes for that development, it will give those of us with property in between access to both services in the near future.
