U.S. FEDERAL GAME WARDENS at customs checking for Mex fish license= posted on bloody decks =

BajaBlanca - 7-23-2011 at 02:07 PM

Hi all, this was posted on bloody decks and I thought it was VERY important for all of us to see:

WARNING US Federal Game wardens in customs

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

can't believe my eyes. just got back from East Cape, via Pheonix, for the first time ever....

2 FEDERAL GAME WARDENS (Never knew they existed)

asking anyone with coolers "Need to see your Mexican fishing licenses"

They warned my buddy and then copied his drivers license, we talked to others in baggage who went through the same scenario.

I keep mine on my boat, and the people who fish with charters...what about them?

be warned......

Woooosh - 7-23-2011 at 02:12 PM

What a crock. You don't even need a license to fish from the shore (or pier?). Are they going to do DNA tests to see what species you caught too?

woody with a view - 7-23-2011 at 02:18 PM

just another reason for the "goons" to invade privacy.... are US agents now enforcing Mexican laws, or are the plans being laid to make the NoAmericanUnion being fast tracked?

if they can't keep a secret program to ship guns south, and keep legal gun owners worried about their rights, what is the fisherman left to do? buy dorado from the cartel????

keep your eyes on the ball, people. they let you see what they want you to know.

slimshady - 7-23-2011 at 07:34 PM

Where in Mexico or LAX? They don't have jurisdiction in Mexico anyway. I would tell them to f*&*off!

Hook - 7-23-2011 at 10:47 PM

I have been asked that (though rarely) at the US border since the early 2000s.

".......US Federal Game wardens in customs" implies on US soil.

Maybe Vince Radice's campaign is having some effect? Maybe you should obey the fishing laws of the country you are leaving?

People with bonafide licenses dont complain about it. People without them, DO.

mcfez - 7-23-2011 at 11:05 PM

When operating a boat that carries fishing equipment in Mexican waters, it is necessary to hold a valid fishing license for everybody aboard the boat, regardless of age and whether fishing or not. A fishing license is not required when fishing from land.

Hook - 7-23-2011 at 11:37 PM

My experience has been that people with "coolers" (plural) arent shore fishing.

But if they have caught "coolers" of fish from shore, then claim that. And good luck with that.

Or, tell the guys at La Bocana to start producing receipts that show you hired them.

So much incredulousness over Mexico finally enforcing the laws that the US does all the time...................

Closest I've come is to show a piece of skin on the fillet to prove species and legality. Some effort to show conformance to limits as well.

Given the abuses of "cooler fishing" I've seen, I really can't squawk too loudly about this, other than the instinctual rebellion towards abuse of power.

DENNIS - 7-24-2011 at 06:58 AM

Just tell the jack-booted thugs that you bought your fish from the market.

bajalou - 7-24-2011 at 08:25 AM

Is it just possible that there are US laws regarding bringing fresh/frozen fish into the US, with exemptions for fish legally caught buy the person bringing them in. Just a thought---

stop smuggling! save the sharks! save the whales!

mtgoat666 - 7-24-2011 at 08:48 AM

I encourage Fish and Game to keep up the good fight!

There is smuggling of seafood and protected species. Just a while ago a sushi restaurant in LA got caught serving whale meat!

I encourage banning of shark fin products, and you should too! Hopefully the CA ban will lead the way for rest of US and other countries!

woody with a view - 7-24-2011 at 08:56 AM

Lou

of course there are laws. what if i bought my fish on the beach from the pangueros because it was so fresh, a good deal for both of us, no? so i filet it and bag it and even buy a cooler because it want to bring home some fresh fish, which packaged properly, will freeze up and carry me through the winter.

your telling me i need to produce a Mexican license to the US agents? just saying....

Not at all, woody. Just saying they are probably enforcing US laws, not Mexican.

I know you don't need a license to fish from shore in Mexico.

acadist - 7-24-2011 at 09:06 AM

Doesn't really matter anyway.....I buy my license rather than take chances of dealing with some unknown person, just like I buy my car insurance and visa.:light:

I think it does matter. We should be aware of their reasons for commiting such an unprecedented act....in the name of law enforcement.
If they're within their bounds, that's the way it is. On the other hand, if they're stretching their interpretation of a law to a point that borders on abuse......we should know that as well. If they're allowd to get away with this crap, you'll soon be asked to show a farming license to bring home a bag of corn from the store.

bajajudy - 7-24-2011 at 09:40 AM

My understanding is that this happened in Phoenix. If this is to stop illegal seafood(including turtle meat) from making its final destination.....go boys!
In other words, I agree with goat.:dudette:

Nothing was said about checking product, Judy. Only licenses.

Once again, we don't know the whole story............

bajajurel - 7-24-2011 at 10:57 AM

Registration for the Pathfinder - check
Registration for the boat and trailer - check
Passport - check
Tourist Visa - check
Fishing license - check
Wrist band - check
Launching fee - check
Pesos - check
Beer - first thing checked

Now where the hell are all the fish?

Yeah....but, if we don't assume to know, we'll never have any fun because, like a lot of other issues tossed around here, the full story never comes out.

J.P. - 7-24-2011 at 11:01 AM

Game Wardens are about the only law enforcement agency that dont need a warrant to search your property any where any time all they need is a suspicion you have illegal game in your possesion.

More laws upon laws for the very few "exceptions" are just more Big Brother costing us more to push us through the eye of the needle from an idea at their donut & coffee meetings.
Enough with new pushy laws on USA citizens while others go right by without any issues (Japan fishing boats in Baja and elsewhere) just getting sooooo tired of crap like this. Just more ways to get monies from those stimulating the economy on both sides of the Border! However,Turtle meat is very easy to know what it is and if the game wardens are looking in coolers for this OK but shark fins?? Take as many of those killing machines out of the ocean or sea is OK with me, as I have know several people hit when surfering, swimming etc. so I could care less how much soup they make with them!! I know some will say Sharks are needed and soooo good but tell that to someone just enjoying the water who is vicimize by their killing attacks!! Yeah...but....but...that's their home. They live there. Humans are voluntarily diving into the food chain. :o

4 total attacks in california last year. You knew them all? I think several were your words. Did the all surf and swim in Brawley?

I am all for common sense laws...but exaggeration only serves to help further the non-sense.

for facts on sharks

yakyak2010 - 7-24-2011 at 01:10 PM

I can't believe a U.S. official would (could) butt in to this. It's even more unbelievable that some people are defending their "right" to do it.

Bajafun777 - 7-24-2011 at 07:05 PM

Idiot huh, Well, I did not say the shark attacks were just from last year nor did I say just California. Maybe you only know people from California that use the ocean too bad for you Further, if you travel and stay around beach areas very much you will meet and know people that have had encounters with sharks. Note, I said several people meaning three or more, did not say hundreds, thousands or anything like your trying to imply. I have been around ocean areas for over 40 years have seen good and bad things happen around them.
Now, I did not call you fools, idiots, jerks, etc. just because you have a different thought on how you enjoy the shark world. You could have said you just love sharks and do not believe they should be harmed in any fashion. I would have accepted that but still would not change my thoughts on sharks. However, I really doubt that you or you buddies name calling here would jump in right next to them.
I do get tired of those who name call others on this site and behind a computer let their mouths over load their ???? Those that do this type of name calling are cowards that think doing this makes them tough. Your just too tough for me and I probably won't sleep tonite worrying about you name callers. Now, have a good swim but still hope you don't get attacked even if you consider the ocean the sharks own world. Take Care & Travel Safe-------- "No Hurry, No Worry, Just FUN" bajafun777

are you for real??

Joelt - 7-26-2011 at 01:15 AM

I don't believe that you need a license to possess fish. At least in California.

you support killing all shark species because a few species will in rare cases bite a human?

let's kill all mt lions and bears because of infrequent attacks.

dogs occasionally bite and kill humans, let's kill them all!

humans murder one another much more frequently than sharks bite humans - using your logic, let's kill all humans to end murder by a few.

yummy seals

mcfez - 7-26-2011 at 06:41 AM

Stinson Beach is a romantic cozy getaway beside the sea near the Muir Woods and Mount Tamalpais. It's where we have been doing the waves since my kids were in Pampers. This beach is number four in regards to shark sightings in the usa

Sharks are not looking to interfere with humans in the water......
they're coming to feed on seals....... though it's not uncommon for surfers to see them. Swimmers are in more danger of bumping into a "as DENNIS said once before"......a brown trout!

On some islands, villagers believed that sharks were spirits of their ancestors.

Eating Shark flesh is forbidden in both the Solomon and Fiji islands.

Now...go swim and have fun.

Here we are (Grandson Josh) back in 06 at the beach.......looking like yummy seals :o
