San Diego Street Art

Oso - 7-26-2011 at 02:27 PM

Not really a vacation but not Baja and it doesn't belong with what has become of Off Topic, so I didn't know where else to put this.

I didn't know these murals etc. existed. Cool stuff! Anybody familiar with these?

I am happy to see you posting!

Canine Cologne has a food blog that also documents San Diego street art: http://pinkcandlesatridgemonthigh.blogspot.com/search/label/...

Yeah...me too. I think this all started with Wyland, the Whale artist some years back.
I like all of it.

Little Italy Art Festa

tripledigitken - 7-27-2011 at 09:32 AM

Most if not all of the "street art" in the link are temporary drawings that are created for the Little Italy Art Festival held every October. The art drawn on the street is.......................

"Gesso Italiano chalk art painting" and is gone in a few days after the street is opened back up to traffic. It is incredible to see, and the food and music at the festival are well worth taking in.

Some of the permanent art on the buildings, however, are new to me as well.

Hi Oso,

Have seen some of them...

#23 The 'Rat Flying a Kite' is on the side of 'Bull Taco' on PCH in Oceanside (just so. of Cassidy). At first, it was thought to have been created by a famous artist, but was later determined to not be his work, only his style.

#28 'Surfing Madonna' in Encinitas was created and installed on the sly by a local artist from Leaucadia named Mark Patterson. It was under the Amtrak overcrossing on Encinitas Blvd at PCH. It was recently removed and will be reinstalled somewhere else in the future. The City of Encinitas had concerns over it's location, citing possible traffic dangers due to drivers viewing it. After it's surprise installation, it's creation and the mystery of who created and installed it was covered heavily by newspapers and TV news channels for weeks.

Some of the others I've seen, but can't remember for sure where they're located.

I wonder if there's a map somewhere listing the location of all the permanent art?
Maybe some entrepreneur offers tours.

Miguelamo :) :D
