Sierra San Francisco packtrip late Oct 1-2 riders wanted

Baja Bucko - 7-26-2011 at 05:59 PM

I will be spending pretty much all of Nov into early Dec. on a mule on 2 different trips in the Sierra San Francisco and one loooonnng 17 day ride from San Ignacio to San Javier....cabalgata time!!!!!~

Very very late in Oct. I am doing an exploration trip in the Los Gajos mesa area (I have been there several times but only for one nite each) and will be base-camped for abt 3-4 days on the mesa and also run into R. San Gregorio for a few days (I am teaching Lupita inglis...).

I am looking for 1-2 people who might like to join me for the Los Gajos trip (abt 7 days) and share costs. Los Gajos will be a few days of dry camp but water is not a problem as we will be pretty close to R. San Pedro and may even buy a goat there for dinner! The views are incredible here! I will be spending most daylight hours exploring the mesa and charting petroglyph sites and also teaching my young guide how to read!! Nites will be around the campfire and music.....

I need to organize now as I will have to apply for INAH permits in early Sept. If you are up for an adventure, want to see a few cave sites and visit w old Californio families, get in touch w me.

I have been traveling Baja for over 40 years much of that has been muleback...there are those who know me joke and say "For a good time, call Bucko...heheheh!"..Right, Neal???

Would love to. I love those 'pinturas' and would like to see more of them, but not there until 2nd half of November.

To see (from space and on maps) the Jesuit built El Camino Real (links to posts on Baja Nomad): http://vivabaja.com/missions2/page13.html

Here's a sample... Southbound, 4-5 miles south of San Borja near Rancho Compostela:

uh Davo...what is the relevance of this shot of ECR in the San Borjas? The trip I am mentioning is in the San Franciscos and not really a ECR trip. My morning brain is confused.

Hi Teddi,

I was offering Nomads how they could see the Camino Real, from space... (links to all sections from Santa Maria south to Loreto)... and I just grabbed one image to show what it looked like... as well as bumping your post to the top!

I saw this you wrote: " ...17 day ride from San Ignacio to San Javier..." and that sounded like an ECR ride...?

Hope it all is good fun, and if you want me to post specific sections of ECR, let me know...

HEY! I think I see a mission wall - some steps and maybe a corral! Maybe a lost mission nobody's ever heard of! Dontcha see it? An arch, some windows, a cave with overhang - a trail leading right to it - probably Spanish treasure inside. The long lost Rancho Elbow II! Gotta check this out!!

Bajame - 7-28-2011 at 08:31 AM

Teddi how much would this trip cost? Seva.

I've gotten several responses to the post above and will try to get back to all of you soon. I am on the road w internet only at night so I will respond. Over the years I have used up several "victims" on my trips..."many volunteer but few are chosen" said tongue-in-cheek.

Seriously give me a few days to get back w answers etc. Presently have got a list of over 6 and that is wayyyy too many...one pack animal for each 2 people-including guide etc-more animals more expense and then its sorta like herding cats......

John M, you are too old and fat to keep up with Teddy on mules!:lol::lol:
I should talk, the last time I was on a Baja mule, I had to have my right foot boosted up and over the mule.:(

Go if you can, Teddy is a winner.

elbeau - glad someone "got" it! I intend to place a Rancho Elbow sign at the original site this Fall. I'll let you know when it's in place.

David K - 7-30-2011 at 09:21 AM

That's too cool. My own little rancho. I may be famous for being a little nuts... But at least I'm famous. :D
