summer is NEARLY here in Asuncion

shari - 7-30-2011 at 02:24 PM

Our summer doesnt really get started till the ocean warms up which usually happens around the first week of August as the cold currents withdraw. But last week Dora pushed some warmer water our way and temps rose to the mid 60's to kick start our summer...which means the kids finally can get in the water! I was soooo happy to finally be able to play in the ocean without a wetsuit for the first time in many months. It's so nice to see people in the water again....here are some local bathers at our little beach...note that none are in bathing suits...typical here...love the cheerleader with the kelp pom pom!

Brisk 'n Lovely!

We have now found not one, but two Secret Beaches in the Greater Bahia Asuncion area!

Our special spots, hidden in plain sight.

Its been warm & muggy so I took a quick dip and enjoyed the waves blasting over the surrounding rocks in the private cove. Doggie-girl Suzi loves cuttin' loose on the seashore, and we even took the two kittens last week to one place that's protected from the wind (cats don' like wind I found out). They sneaked around in the bushes, played with the shore flies that love the fermenting sargasso or climbed all over me. Back to town by sunset.

looking at Terafin it appears the warm water is only as far North as Abreojos. I hope it keeps moving.

i lost that one in the folds of the old brain cells, Bob. it's good to enjoy the classics every once in awhile when you least expect it.

here is the modern version:

Hey Woody, Shelley had me rewrite that song (because we love to eat): "Suppertime, and the liver is greasy!"

BFS - 7-31-2011 at 02:30 PM

actually Gottapeso is the original writer of that song. He said so...

Woody... A bit too modern for me!! I like the classic version better! The older I grow the more I seem to like the classics...except when it comes to the ladies. Call me a pervert if you want, but....I still enjoy good looking, sweet young things...LOL!!!

Miguelamo   :P :saint: :bounce:

For the record

Howard - 7-31-2011 at 04:52 PM

That song applies especially to us teachers!

Udo - 8-1-2011 at 08:10 AM

So the water will be summer-like in December, Shari?
We'll bring out tandem kaiak. This thing will blow you away!
It's a Hobie Tandem Adventure Island, with the emphasis on island as in visiting your islands.

shari - 8-1-2011 at 08:34 AM

the ocean temps in December are usually lovely...around 75 degrees and perfect for kayaking out to the islands...look forward to a little paddle with ya.

Eli - 8-1-2011 at 08:52 AM

How does it get in Aug. and Sept. Shari? Water temps at that time? Sounds mighty tempting!

beddows - 8-1-2011 at 09:42 PM

I was there in summer a few years ago. Not unbearable except aroudn San felipe. Certainly less traffic. How was business in the RV park last season , Shari, it was sure down on the mainland.

shari - 8-2-2011 at 07:52 AM

as I mentioned, the ocean only warms up in august and september is our hottest month...sometimes we even have to turn a fan on at night for a couple hours!!! But hot for me is like 85 degrees. The only really hot days are those a few days when a tropical storm is marching up this way as it sucks the west breeze away and it may reach 90 but there is not much humidity. When it starts to heat up, our pacific breeze provides a sweet, cooling vientecito.

We are seeing alot more baja residents from Mulege, La Paz area and Chivato over here in the summer.

Beddows...Campo Sirena has been EXTREMELY slow...this and last year, we have experienced about a 60 percent drop in business. It is interesting because the villagers have been soooo looking forward to the highway being paved to increase tourism visits and it just hasnt happened...yet.

Most of our visitors are people who have been here before and loved it...not too many first timers these days...

Although the town could certainly use the extra income tourism brings, it's kinda nice to be so quiet...time will tell I guess.

Eli - 8-2-2011 at 09:10 AM

Oh Shari, tempt me, tempt me, love those temperatures!

shari - 8-2-2011 at 09:21 AM

it would be fantastic to have you here with us Eli...imagine all the fun we would have!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Vince - 8-2-2011 at 11:34 AM

Shari- We are over here in Mulege at our place on Coyote Bay doing some fishing. We are planning to fly back in our Cessna 182 in a day or two and may want to stop in B.Asuncion. Do you know the condition of the airstrip? Do you have a hotel at which we could stay? How far are the two apart? We are in and out of wifi range, so will check response later. Gracias. Vince

the strip is in great shape...and there's always room at the Inn!!! check your U2U por favor....the strip is about 5 minutes from the village.
