Do I need a temp import permit to travel to Gonzaga Bay, BOLA or San Ignacio and back over say a 5-10 day period??
Have read some confusing reports about a $200-400 fee??

you mean a tourist card?

and if so, ys you do need a tourist card or you may be fined $100 dollars. you can ONLY get it at the border - at Tj even tho' they say the "bank"
will onlu open at 7 am, go there ane knock on the window. the person is there sleeping but the sign says 24/7. get the papers at immigration. pay at
the bank window. go back to immigration and get a stamp.
this is needed for anyone going south of the border past Ensenada or even to Ensenada for over 3 days.
You can get it online at DISCOVER BAJA in san diego as well. it will then be prepaid and all you need to do is have immigation at the border (stay in
far right lane) stamp it !!
your car will be fine - no papers needed, but take passport and vehicle registration.
and have a safe and fun trip.

A temp import permit for a car or boat is not needed in Baja.
Get a tourist card and Mex auto/boat/RV insurance and you're all set.

The import permit is required for the mainland. Like when we go below Nogales. For Bajacalifornia and Sur we only need immigration (tourist )
permit.

thanks...just got a note from azbeemers motorcycle club that says there is now a $200-400 refundable surcharge on the temp import permit...refundable
AFTER you return it..3 days or 3 months ...they hold the surcharge until you return it...as far as the tourist card...been going down about twice a
year for 3-4 years...never have gotten one and never been asked...have i just been dodging the bullet...we cross at Yuma/ San Luis...usually just go
to GB, COCO's and return...went to San Ignacio once...was asked at the GN checkpoint..told then that the bank wasn't open when we passed thru (Semanta
Santa)...they said OK and we passed???
only time we ever got one was a single trip to Kino Bay...thru Nogales
