"Anchor Baby" seems to be really pulling away.

tiotomasbcs - 7-31-2011 at 06:10 PM

Are you bored/what? Maybe Pamela Anderson would have been a better choice? Why bam I wastin my time here? Tio

mulegemichael - 7-31-2011 at 07:04 PM

i don't get the anchor baby gig....if i have three days, i sure as hell aren't goin to baja!!!

thebajarunner - 7-31-2011 at 07:19 PM

use your search, Dude
we just did that
and then we did that
and then, golly, we did that one again.....

BornFisher - 7-31-2011 at 07:21 PM

I`d spend the first 5 minutes building a monument to RichBaja. Then the usual---- get my boat and fish.

bajadock - 7-31-2011 at 08:39 PM

Choices were a bit limited. "Effort having anchor baby" would better suit me, but, my adventures are a bit more quiet than the tales of Fishbuck.

RichBaja - 8-1-2011 at 11:56 AM

I can't believe nobody enjoys harpooning whale sharks?! Those things are such good eatin!

Bob H - 8-1-2011 at 12:00 PM

The monument for David K would have to be located on Shell Island, for sure....

Well, that would be fine as the place remains deserted so nobody will have to look at it, LOL!

Nobody wants to go to such a crowded place, 3 hours from the border, 4th of July weekend!:

Look, the same crowds on last Memorial Day weekend!!:

The place sucks for sure!
:lol::lol:

Dominica - 8-1-2011 at 11:49 PM

Ok, David K, what is the location of that overcrowded beach so I can avoid it? Looks loverly....

Access is Km. 26 south of San Felipe... It is an island, so during the highest tides (new and full moons) it is surrounded by water.

RichBaja - 8-2-2011 at 12:13 PM

Okay, I guess David K figured out how to vote more then once. 8)
Did I mention that the monument would be built out of fecal matter?
:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

David K - 8-2-2011 at 04:27 PM

Rich, I didn't vote at all in your poll... 'None of the above' wasn't asked.

TMW - 8-2-2011 at 05:08 PM

I voted for DK. None of the other statements made any sense. I already get free hugs. I don't eat turtles or kill whales and I'm too old for any more babies, besides there's enough on Nomad and I would rather camp near Tecate.

DENNIS - 8-2-2011 at 05:32 PM

This whole thing is redickless.

This is probably one of the most important threads that has ever been posted.

Trueheart - 8-5-2011 at 10:17 AM

I'd be figuring out a way to go for more than 3 days!

I'll take that 3 days

mcfez - 8-5-2011 at 10:48 AM

Be better than here .....working for those three days :-)

Think I would go to Shell Island down by San Felipe.

I know David....Shell Beach...:-)

CortezBlue - 8-5-2011 at 11:12 AM

How about BBQ David K and build a monument for the sea turtles

Count Down to Censorship starts................................................................................................................................................ .....................NOW

Cypress - 8-5-2011 at 11:54 AM

None of the above, but a BBQ with David K and friends sounds good.

OHBOY....."Nomads and Pagan Rituals." It'll be a best seller.

mcfez - 8-5-2011 at 03:01 PM

This "place" wouldnt be much without the likes of DavidK and a few others such as DENNIS. Let's keep the BBQ reserved for ribs.

Martyman - 8-5-2011 at 03:06 PM

Where is the love for Tecate? How long can you stay at the brewery? I got kicked out of the Olympia brewery for singing.

No, you have it right... I named it 'Shell Island' about 35 years ago when it was obviously surrounded by water at high tide. Newer gringos called it Shell Beach, as it has plenty of shells and is a beach... but there already is a Shell Beach in Baja... at Punta Chivato, near Mulege. Island is techincally more descriptive and more unique, IMO.

A local named it Isla San Martin according to a sign for his failed tourist camp a mile south of Percebu... Just like Bahia Santa Maria, which we had called 'the lagoon' for the years before Aniceto Madueña homesteaded the area and named it after his daughter. That stuck because his campo succeeded and so it got on maps.

I was naturally happy when Shell Island was published as a name for this place in a recent Moon guidebook!:

mcfez - 8-5-2011 at 05:39 PM

Oh my Gods David :lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol: Thats funny!

But you what....I shall call it Shell Beach always.

I believe an "anchor baby" is a term that refers to the children of undocuented immigrants born in the US. These children have been a means to stay in the country, since all kids born there are citizens by birth. But US immigration has, on occasion, deported (or attempted to deport) the mothers of these kids, anyway.

DK, I assume Shell Isle is accessible only be 4x
on a minus tide? Are you driving out to S Isle
on hard pack wet sand, or is there still a few inches
of water? Regardless my Toyota truck wouldn't make it,
I don't suppose it is walking distance from shore? The
price sounds right, the in town
San Felipe campgrounds are $30 + a nite.
I've met 2 REVERSED anchor Babies in Baja, one was
hippie from Santa Cruz, Ca., who had his kid born
in Ensenada, another Canadian who had his kid
born in La Paz, with the hopes of owning land under
the kids name

Pamela Anderson - yum. The true Miss Emerson. I'd have an anchor baby with her, all 3 days (and nights). :tumble:

SFandH - 8-9-2011 at 04:40 PM

I was disappointed that this is a poll with rather strange options.

If I had 3 days in baja, I'd fly into Cabo, stay in one of the original Finisterra rooms overlooking the bay, SCUBA dive every morning at land's end, hang at the pool's swim up bar in the afternoons, and eat at expensive restaurants at night.

What would you do?

The road to the island from Hwy. 5 (2 miles) is sandy with some deep drifts, so use momentum if you want to avoid letting air out of your tires (yet):

The road crosses the tidal mud flats (salt flats) to reach the beach. There is a concrete bridge on the beach end of the road that was built in 1984 for a failed project. The once elevated road bed across the flats to the bridge, has since melted down lower than the bridge, making the bridge useless.. so now just drive around the south side of the bridge.

Looking towards Hwy. 5:

To drive on the beach, the air pressure should be reduced by at least 50%, or more... a point where the tires will 'float' on the sand and not dig in. Mud or 3 ply sidewall tires will require more removed than other tires. The range is usually 9-18 psi for the beach here. A good electric air pump will refill them when you leave.

The island is 4 miles long, and offers camping spots for hundreds... but last July 4th we were the only ones... and a year before, just 2 other rigs on the beach with us (Ken Cooke and edm-1).

At full tide, this is the body of water that seperates the island from Baja, on the north half: Estero Percebu (Laguna Percebu):

Here is back at the road during high tide last July:

If you arrive at any point below high tide, driving on the wet sand is easier and your tracks are erased by the next high tide in a few more hours!

It's not just an ISLAND... It's and ADVENTURE!:bounce:

Know What?
