Not exactly Tiburon related but speaking of odds,
a comparison I've used
to people who voice a fear of going to Baja/Mex
and the possibility of grave harm coming to them SOB,
is that there are some 200 Bicycle deaths a yr. in Calif
along with 1000's of injuries. Sharks no, I believe a seal will
bite you before a shark. Heard on Shark Week that there
are no recorded attacks on a human from an Orca in
the wild, that surprised me

Shark Attacks in the Mojave Desert are Extremely rare.

Or, in the pool at Poppet Flats.

I have seen a few White Whales, though.

And, They DO look like Maneaters.

Agree Rob. It's really amazing that they only do that "launch" thing in South Africa. I had an interesting discussion with the Mexican skipper of the boat Andrea Lynn on my Guadalupe trip. He said that Guadalupe has a regular population of about 50 whites, who annually migrate between the island and a spot in the mid Pacific about halfway to Hawaii. Presumably they mate and pup there, then return to Guadalupe for chow. He felt that, without protection, the entire population would be wiped out in one season. He also felt that it isn't even so much the official Mexican government protection offered to Guadalupe, it's that the Mexican boats that work Guadalupe have come to realize that the sharks are much more valuable to them alive than dead.

There was a dead dolphin on the beach here last week that had been attacked by a shark. It still had a sharks-tooth embedded in it. They said it was killed by a Great White- but I don't hear much about those sharks being up here in Rosarito Beach. With the event last weekend (Mexicali en la Playa) there of course was no news coverage of the dolphin that I could find. I think the big sharks are def out there off the west side of the Coronados- maybe the dead dolphin floated all the way here.
