I just corresponded with our friend in Todos Santos who says they have had lots of rain this year so everything is green and beautiful. That's the
good news. The not so good news is that with all that water come the flying bugs. I would imagine that anywhere in Baja Sur would have similar
conditions right now. Bring your bug spray, at least for the next couple of months.

a whistlen Dixie there Jefe. First hand knowledge says plan on scratching. Between the jejenes, moscas, and sancudos, you will be very busy swatting.
And sweating because it is HUMID as well.
Repellants have been distributed between Mulege and Los Barriles and everyone has been extremely thankful because of the vast numbers of critters.
Bernie, Herb and the rest of you guys who contributed repellants are quite possibly elevated to hero status as so far, I haven't heard of one case
of Dengue.
Be prepared for bugs everyone who is planning on heading south.

Exactly what kind of bug spray JR? Concentrate or aerosol... or personal repellant like Deet?
I am going to Tijuana tomorrow and could bring some to Antonio, who could take it to El Rosario, from where you or other Nomads could take it to the
mountain people

I am already down here and distributing many kinds. I recommend that anyone coming down bring some for themselves, and a lot more for the poor people.
That doesn't mean your buddies that happen to have run out but the people that live near the mosquito areas that can't afford to stay healthy during
these crises.
All kinds have been donated and they all seem to work. I would recommend some childrens strength of whatever brand to be included.
I always give instruction as to application and no matter what kind, spray or rub/roll on should be first applied to hands and then on other body
parts.
Cut's down on waste, keeps it out of eyes and sensitive areas and it is done by an adult.
It is also necessary to explain to the kids not to rub eyes or put hands in mouth after contact with skin.
5 cans at Baja Cactus, El Rosario... who will add more or take them down to JR

Today (Sunday) I took 5 cans of Cutter (deet) personal mosquito repellant to Antonio, who gave it to one of his people leaving for El Rosario. As of
Sunday evening (9-12) they are already at the Baja Cactus Motel office (next to the Pemex station).
Any Nomads heading to La Paz, San Bartolo, or where-ever JR instructs, could pick them up in El Rosario and drop them off in Baja Sur.
Anyone going as far as El Rosario, but not to La Paz, who would care to add their donation of mosquito repellant can drop them off at the Baja Cactus
Motel office for others to carry them on south.
A box could be labled "For JR's Project", perhaps?

As a matter of fact I just got back from San Bartolo and Los Barriles. Common consensus has this year already pegged as the worst mosquito season they
have seen. And it's only September. Muy malo to be sure. And it's just going to get worse.
I haven't heard of any cases of Dengue yet so let's hope for the best.
If you guys are not going to remote areas, an easy place to distribute and find are the schools. Or if you want to get up close and personal,
explore the area and see who needs what .
The poorest of people need the repellants and things the most as they can't afford to keep themselves very healthy to begin with. They are the
most susceptable to disease and sickness so that's generally where the repellants and medicines go.
I'm heading north pretty soon and will check out conditions in the towns along the way.

You didn't say where you want the repellant delivered for you to distribute... Or, shall they just be taken to various schools? Where does the fever
area usually begin, Mulege or further south?
Nomads (and lurkers)... For about $20 you can buy 5 cans of Cutter or Off or ?? That is a small donation, but can help perhaps 5 families for a week
or one family for five weeks.
Take them to Baja Sur, or drop them off at Baja Cactus Motel for pick up by a southern Baja Sur bound Nomad.

Ok friends..... the cans DavidK sent are already on the reception of the BajaCactus Motel waiting for someone going to Baja Sur to pick up.
As DavidK said, if you are not going that far, and would like to add a donation, leave it at BajaCactus and someone else could pick it up.
The front desk of the BajaCactus Motel is right next to the Gas Station at El Rosario and is open 24 hrs a day all year round.

JR: If a Nomad is going to pass San Bartolo where can they drop off the spray cans? Is there a tienda or restaurant along Mex. 1 that will hold them
for you, or pass them out... if that is where the need is...???
Repellants in Baja

OK, Baja California Sur is getting hit hard this year. The worst areas I have seen for mosquitos this year are #1. San Bartolo #2. Mulege #3. El
Centenario.
All of the areas down there have had the rains and are continueing to get more. This means it's going to get much worse bug wise.
Mission San Luis Gonzaga folks who last year refused the repellants because they were needed at the beach communities more, asked me for some when I
was there a few days ago. This means trouble !!
As long as Antonio doesn't mind, please keep bringing repellants to drop off there or if you are going to any of these places, spread them out
yourselves.
I will be going back down in about 3 or 4 weeks so if anyone is going prior to that, they can use the repellants NOW !!!!
