Just got home tonight from having a nice cup of coffee and a great piece of apple pie with the wife downtown. For me I look forward to our time
together where ever it is but a excellent cup of coffee and hot apple pie with a slice of cheese and a scoop of Mexican vanilla ice cream really hits
the spot.
When we returned home I pressed the button to open the garage door and looked over to my right and our 50 gallon trash can was gone. I immediately
started to laugh so hard tears were coming out my eyes. My wife looked at me and smiled and said "what's so funny?" I pointed to the cement slab which
held our trusted metal container (I pointed because I was still laughing so hard I couldn't talk) and she just shook her head.
I am kinda glad it's gone. There was a metal top but that was stolen a few months ago so anything inside the flies would feed on and it got really
nasty on those hot days.
When we came inside our home I started to think why in the world would someone take our can? For re-sale? Possible. Because someone stole their can?
Possible. To make a couple of BBQ's ? Possible. The more I thought about it the more it made me laugh so I let it slide and figured whomever the thief
was needed it a lot more than I did.
My trash guys love me. I use the big hefty trash bags and whenever I'm home I chill three sodas for the guys. I watch these guys pick up these heavy
cans every Friday morning, especially after a good rain, and they pick em up and dump the contents in the truck like it was nothing. I can't imagine
doing that all day for little pay so give your trash guys a nice cold drink once in awhile.
I should have know better to allow the guy who bought my pool table and TV last month to bring the 900 pesos, he was short, to me in a few days. After
a week I called him and he said he was sorry and that he would be at my home with the 500 the next day. He said he was in a car accident and had to
pay the other driver. He didn't show of course. This went on a few more times and always he said he would pay me in a few days. Still nothing. Was I
stupid to allow this? You bet. All my fault. I initially took his voter card in lieu of payment but I guess he figures it would be cheaper to just go
pay for another. As a matter of fact I think they are free. Oh well. I know i will see the guy again. Ensenada is not that big.
About five years ago my wife was given about ten potted plants and we put them in our front yard. There is a fence but one could jump over with no
problem. Thats what happened a few days later after these nice plants were displayed for all to enjoy. GONE. As I was cutting the grass in my front
yard a few days later some guy in his old pick up was coming down the street very slow honking his horn and on his loud speaker he announced he had
plants of all kinds for very little price. I yelled at him to stop, thinking I was going to make the wife feel better about our stolen plants) and as
i looked into the bed of his truck----You guessed it, MY PLANTS. I think that was the last time I had laughed so hard. I told the guy he had my plants
in the back of his truck in the same hand painted pots. He told me he had bought them from some guy in the little eijdo where he lived. He was advised
that I would not call the police if he gave all my plants back. After a heated exchange, and me going into the house for the phone, he put the plants
on the curb and left.
I know this could happen anywhere but it happened here. I could go on and on with stories like this since I have lived in Ensenada and to be honest
with all that has happened to me and the items that have been stolen I really have not lost much. It really could have been a lot worse but with my
big dog in the house (who is just a pussy) and my alarm system I fell pretty good about leaving everything I own in my house and it being protected.
What happened tonight with the trash can just hit my funny bone and I had to share.
I will be smiling when I fall asleep tonight!

I've also lost a 50 gallon, steel trash can to thieves. I didn't laugh at all. They arn't that easy to find since the plastic type is used more these
days.
Another time I failed to see the humor......I used to live in town near the extension university on the Costero Blvd. and I'd spend a lot of time
there. I would ride my bicycle the short distance from home and park it in the fenced yard without locking it.
One day, I came out to find my bike stolen. I was peeed, but it was my fault for not locking it to the fence.
Fast forward to a half year later when I was down near Estero Beach and what do I see rolling down the street? My bike...exactly as I had left it in
the school yard.
I turned around and caught up with the guy on my bike and asked him where he got it. He replied that he bought it from a friend.
I told him he should go get his money back because the bike was mine. I took it and left.

If you have many more such stories, and given that you write well and have such a good attitude about things that most of us would blow a gasket over,
you might consider putting them together for a book--seriously.
With a little polishing, you could be the next Dave Berry. And given that these things happen in Baja--a place of immense interest to our fellow

Trash disposal, especially while camping in Mex,
has often been a challenge. On a few occasions, I
can remember dropping off trash in a can on the street,
when the owner yells out the ever present P-nche
Gringo, as if we have done something incorrect.
In San Felipe I observed a kid, obviously told to take
the trash out, walks out his front door 20' and
throws it into the air
On a side note, can somebody explain to me why when I
type the Mex Slang P-nche, when posted the i disappears
replaced with a -?

Could be. I drove over to the Buf last Monday after a crowded weekend and the whole place looked like a city dump. They sell paper plated food and
drinks in foam cups, but don't put out but a few trash cans. One of them was probably mine a few years back.
