why is this even news? with a near depression, jobs at an all time low, and the handful of rfid cards in the hands of the folks....

shouldn't the waits be near record lows? kinda like fuel prices?

the politicos have us right where they want us... in the fetal position!

I don't know why there are more cars crossing than ever before. Thousands cross to go to work, thousands cross to attend school. Even a bad US economy looks good to a Mexican living close to the border, like in TJ. They don't have to uproot and move to get a better life or better paying job than in TJ, just be willing to sit in line for a few hours.

Looks like they are gradually phasing out the regular lanes.

Good idea since most border crossers are regular crossers. The passport requirement got rid of the casual crossers.

They are supposed to double up on the regular lane booths so one booth will have two inspectors and can do a lane on each side of the booth. The lane will branch just before the booth.

Yes. It seems the regular crossers or friends of regular crossers are still using their drivers licenses.

I have people not visit because they do not have a passport. Even when I say its no problem. They are afraid CBP agents arresting them.

I think eventually all ID's and passports will have the IR Chips- then they can open more lanes dedicated to them...So this will evolve to 4 lanes of Sentri, 6 lanes for IR card-readers only and two lanes for whoever is left?

i sent my question to customs regarding towing in the ready lanes. the answer is below. so, yes, you can use the ready lanes while towing.

the rest of the answer from them confuses me. i thought you could not use sentri if you are towing. has that changed?

answer from customs:
Yes. The reason is if the boat and trailer are not registered on your SENTRI membership, you should not attempt to use the SENTRI lane. However, you have a RFID WHTI compliant document in your SENTRI card, so you may use the Ready Lanes.

They seems to be saying you cannot use the Sentri lane if you are towing. Instead use the ready lane with Sentri card as ID.
