Would you move to Ensenada or San Felipe?

RichBaja - 8-12-2011 at 04:20 PM

And why? Spear the part where you shout "they are so totally different that you just can't compare them.

woody with a view - 8-12-2011 at 04:20 PM

no.

dtbushpilot - 8-12-2011 at 04:22 PM

What woody said.....dt

David K - 8-12-2011 at 04:22 PM

Well, not IN San Felipe, but in that region.

nbacc - 8-12-2011 at 04:28 PM

Depends on what environment you are looking for, If you like to go to the movies don't choose San Felipe. Nancy

You are so right Before I retired i bought two lots at Eldorado ranch in San Felepi, went over in August too hot
We came to Ensenada in Dec. after retirement and never left. I love San Felipi but You can live Comfortably year round in Ensenada and its close enough to visit San Felipi I have driven over there for lunch . I think i have the best of two worlds.:biggrin:

Does this mean you don't like Loreto or La Paz anymore?

How about Pescadero/Todos Santos?

No?

OK. How about San Jose del Cabo/Cabo San Lucas?

I think you're trying to rouse some rabble.:lol::lol:

Todos Santos and another location will be polled in the near future. Hold your horses.

tjBill - 8-12-2011 at 04:57 PM

I choose Ensenada; it's large and sophisticated.

SF, to me, has 2 good weather windows, Apr. May
first 1/2 of June, the mid Sept, Oct,. But honestly if
given the chance why would one not take the opportunity
to live close to D, out on the PB Peninsula, 15 mi. so.
of Ensenada, goofing with you D. I would pick SF,
it feels comfortable to me, it would be hard for me to
turn down the Cortez at sunrise. SF has 1 non working
stoplight, Ensenada has 101 working stoplights.
My wardrobe fits SF, wearing shorts 365

Ensenada for sure, much more to see and do.

Ensenada

bajaguy - 8-12-2011 at 05:43 PM

Hands down!!!!

Plenty to do. You can live in the city or out in the country.

Major hospitals, shopping and social events such as the Annual Wine Festival in August

Close proximity to the US, but far enough away to be nice.

Some nice homes/lots in the Punta Banda area that have ocean/city views.

Weather is good all year around. We know people that have places in the San Felipe area that spend the entire summer (April through September) in Ensenada........why not just live hear year around???

Depends on what you want to do! I don't want lots of people, movies, stuff to do....I want to have peace and quiet and relaxation! I pick (picked) San Felipe. I don't mind the heat and I love it there in the summer when almost all the other "gringos" are gone. IF I want some cool weather, lobster etc. I can go to Ensenada...otherwise that is too populated for me! You will have to stay in both places and decide what is important to you.

Dave - 8-12-2011 at 06:36 PM

Ensenada, hands down--Great restaurants, harbor, Pacific Ocean, mild climate, wine country, short trip to the States.

San Felipe is a dump. Nice spots south, though (in season).

DENNIS - 8-12-2011 at 06:37 PM

Either location is only a six-pak away from the other. :saint:

[I think J.P. already made this, or a similar point.]

Lee - 8-12-2011 at 06:45 PM

I've got to be kidding? Why would anyone wanting the true Baja experience seriously consider these places? Go South -- Baja doesn't begin until you've crossed the 28th Parallel.

Walk the beaches of Migrino, Pedrito, Punta Lobos, La Poza and Pastora and you'll never go back.

Todos and Pescadero: the only places to live. Like Old Baja use to be.

mcfez - 8-12-2011 at 06:50 PM

San Felipe is hot as Hell during the months of July - September. For me.....it's not comfee to camp with the heat.....during the night as well. I'm an outdoors type of guy....The wife loves it there during these hot months....her and friends bake in the sun and do the town shopping thing. Good restaurants...not world class. SF has all that you need. I need to be near the USA for family visits. Further south is to far to drive.

Having said that....
San Felipe is close to Mexicali and the US.....and close to the great outdoors. From K35'ish all the way to Gonzaga Bay .....great hiking to fishing. Many friendly folks in the region. One can access BoLa and the Pacific coast in a few years with the new highway being installed....in a matter of a few hours.

For Nightclubs to fine dinning.....stealing garbage cans from certain Nomads here....The Pacific side is the place to be.

Fact is.....I was suppose to be looking at a new location for a home...over by SQ or BoLA...last June. Didnt make it due to my brother not getting his retirement papers cleared properly.

The bottom line....SF is closer, less dense....cheaper to live at than Ensenada if you wish to live near the water. Ensenada...for me...is way too large of a town...... and dont that DENNIS guy live there?

Yep, what McFez said!!!
Except, I like the heat too...a big contrast to WA state.

rhintransit - 8-12-2011 at 07:00 PM

nope. but am sure some folks love either or both...personal choice.

Most of my life that's how i measured distance.:spingrin:

Bob H - 8-12-2011 at 07:40 PM

I am never going to move to Baja, but given your two choices, if I were to move, it would be Ensenada, for sure.

But, I'd rather just visit and rent places to stay in different areas of Baja rather than to stick myself in one area.

Will never leave San Diego as my home base for life.

Oddjob - 8-12-2011 at 07:59 PM

would you prefer Compton or Victorville?

bajalou - 8-12-2011 at 09:42 PM

Ensenada is WAY to figging cold for this old body----any time of the year.

SFandH - 8-13-2011 at 07:02 AM

Ensenada for sure. San Felipe is way to hot for this old body. But I hate air conditioning and sweating is against my religion. IMHO mid to northern BC, Pacific side, has the best year round weather in the entire peninsula, just like Southern CA.

Punta Banda is a nice area. Even inland a bit towards Santo Tomas. The north side of Ensenada has some real nice housing developments.

Udo - 8-13-2011 at 07:53 AM

I would pick Ensenada over San Felipe, if only just because of the Punta Banda group of people.
However, San Felipe has one thing that can't be found in Ensenada...

THE COCO LOCOS @ RUBENS CAMP...TO DIE FOR!:smug:

Marc - 8-13-2011 at 07:58 AM

Like choosing either San Francisco or Modesto??:lol:

Bajajorge - 8-13-2011 at 08:00 AM

San Felipe, but not in the summer. Off roading right out your front door. Just about any type of vehicle, off road, ATV etc etc being driven on Hwy5, local streets, paved and not paved. Baja 250, Code 250, Tequila Festival, Shrimp Festival.

Ensenada no. What was that CW song? "Big City Turn Me Loose"

chrisx - 8-13-2011 at 10:47 AM

Ensenada - Si Bueno
Would it not be better to have a small apartment, and spend ¿10? days a month exploring .. ... . everywhere

RichBaja - 8-14-2011 at 01:50 PM

Which has better fishing?
