Yesterday was supposed to be a day to unwind and take it easy but it did'nt quite turn out that way! The day before we returned from Ensenada to
reports on our VHF radio of one maybe 2 fires in the Sierra due to lightning strikes, one was supposed to be south of our ranch! We got home but saw
no evidence of smoke anywhere, but there was a fire burning furthur up the road at a ranch called Los Manzanos around the km 74 point. The forestales
were working on that one with helicopters diverted from the big fires the day before around Santo Tomas. The next day we got up had a leisurly
breakfast and monitored the significant smoke plume from the Los Manzanos fire about 3km (as the crow flies) from us. Early in the afternoon I saw the
horses looking at something to the west, sure enough there was a plume of smoke about 600 yards from the house on a small nearby hill. About several
1000 square feet had been burning all that morning! Got on the radio to the park and in 10 minutes the forestales sent a chopper with 8 guys to check
it out. They worked for about an hour and then a small rain storm dropped enough water to get it under control! They took a needed rest at the house
for about an hour waiting for their "ride" to pick them up, so we made them coffee and fresh muffins for a snack. We thanked them for coming so
quickly and they all piled back on the chopper to continue fighting the Manzanos fire. We may not get much in the way of "services" here but boy the
forestales are sure a godsend!
We have a big 4000 litre water tank we keep filled all during the fire season just in case of a nearby fire so the chopper has a good source for water
bombing!

WOW....that is really amazing...you guys have a helicopter landing pad!!! Sounds like you have the services you "really" need...pretty darn good
response time...you must be happy to know that they are there...just in case...and excellent planning to have the pila.
never a dull moment eh...and I bet you wouldnt have it any other way.

Shari: thanks yeah never a dull moment! Definitly part of the Baja adventure! Seems we get more for our $60 in taxes here than our $1500 back in
Ontario
Oddjob/Fulano: yes funny guy/gal: remind me to make light of the next time your habitation is in peril you wanker!

You Newfies must not have a sense of humor. Or should I say humour?
