Hotter than snot

krafty - 9-6-2011 at 02:15 PM

here in Rosarito-probably the hottest day of the summer. Or maybe just the high humidity?

DENNIS - 9-6-2011 at 02:42 PM

Here too. No breeze at all.
Gawd....I feel for those folks over on the SOC side. I can't stand it when it approaches 90°.

Russ - 9-6-2011 at 03:41 PM

12 mph N breeze ~ 96º & 56%
Yes it's hot but a nice change with the low humidity.

Pompano - 9-6-2011 at 03:42 PM

Strange times.

Weird heat all over the globe. It's dang near 90F in north North Dakota. Not much incentive to go out goose-hunting.

I got word that Rome is hotter'n the inside of a cow.

90? That's a Spring day here. Yesterday after the thunderstorm was the first day since May it's been under 100 in Yuma. I needed a windbreaker.

Friends of mine back east tell me this has been the most miserable summer they can remember by far.

And it's nice to see you back posting Roger...

bajabass - 9-6-2011 at 04:05 PM

97 here in La Paz. Heat index 103! Time for a swim!!

Bajahowodd - 9-6-2011 at 04:19 PM

Regarding Rome, where I have several friends, temps have been running mid-80's and upper 60's recently.

Mexitron - 9-6-2011 at 04:23 PM

100 in Pasadena today, heading back to TX to pack up the house where, ironically, it will be cooler finally. 68 days over 100 in Fort Worth this summer, and the hottest summer ever by average temp and other indicators.

DENNIS - 9-6-2011 at 04:34 PM

The San Diego weather man just said it's supposed to be warmer tomorrow, then a cooling, less humid trend will set in.
Whatever.......more frosty Pacificos is all it means.

Cypress - 9-6-2011 at 04:38 PM

Those weather stations have been surrounded by cement and steel. A parking lot is gonna be one of the hottest places in town! Move 'em out into the countryside! Get some real readings. Don't buy into all that phoney Anthropogenic Global Warming BS. It's supposed to be hot in the summer. Have already had a couple of frosts! Are entering another ice age?:D

If you're referring to the Fort Worth weather station data---its taken out by the airport, fairly open country north of DFW---my readings at my house have been consistently higher, actually.

Summer just in time for all the surf teens to head back to school. Not so crowded in the midweek line up.:saint::yes:

Cypress - 9-6-2011 at 05:48 PM

DFW? Is that the same airport that has a runway on an overpass? Looks like a lot of cement and steel for as far as the eye can see.

Pompano - 9-6-2011 at 05:52 PM

Regarding El Azizia, Libya, where I have no friends at all...it is also very hot. It is the site of the earth's highest recorded temperature, but point of fact is that many places nearby were probably hotter than the inside of a camel.

The record stands at 136F or 57C at a meteorological station in El Aziza, Libya in 1922.

The unofficial high temperature, which does not meet the international weather standards, was 140° Fahrenheit (60° Celsius). This was recorded at Delta, Mexico, in August 1953. It's summer! All these histronics about Anthropogenic Global Warming brings to mind the story of "Chicken Little". Something about the sky is falling? Get a grip. Was born and raised in the south. Didn't have air conditioning till I was in my teens. I know what heat is. Shed a few pounds of blubber and find some shade.

DENNIS...I DO take great offense at such a remark. I thought you were better than that..or at least knew me better from my past posts on Bajanomad regarding fishing, hunting and the outdoors in general.

But, reading that statement about 'He goes in to kill' made me write this ..but I won't hijack this thread to get into a ******* war with you. I will, however, gladly do it on another thread about Hunting that I intend to start manana..or the next day..or week..whatever.

Your remark: "If three hundred million Americans did that.....what would be left?" tells me you are not aware of the vital and essential support with money and labor hunters give to the natural environment. Example: The three of us hunting Canadas (honkers) the other day...Munga, Randy, and I...contribute a very hefty sum each year to many local and federal wildlife refuges.

Also Ducks Unlimited direct monies and more at dinners/auctions $$$$!!, Pheasants Forever, Trout Unlimited, and dozens more..not to mention the high excise taxes we gladly pay on ammunition, gun sales, hunting licenses, and all kinds of sporting gear.

Nationwide US hunters alone generate 80 billion dollars a year to perpetuate wildlife. Most people talk the talk about game preservation, habitat creation and conservation..we walk the walk. Randy and I personally contribute to a certain Saskatchewan duck habitat area that produces thousands of ducks & geese each and every year since we started in 1979. I am damn proud of those fall flights of Canada born mallards, pintails, and honkers that buzz my decoys in the early morning light of North Dakota.

Okay, okay I'm getting a little too intense here..but this subject is important for the uninformed population of America to understand...but I need to take a break from this thread. Not fair to the OP.

Besides...The last two days are kind of a new start on life for me ...and the reason I started posting here again. A very special reason that you don't need to know about.

Anyway, Dennis I think maybe you are just bored and baiting me with such an obviously stupid and false statement. That okay and good enough, I feel very comfortable talking about something as important to America as hunting ...in it's true sense concerning reverance of nature by anyone worthy of the name..hunter. I, of course, exclude slobs...you know who you are.

Quickly now...To summarize 'why I go into the environment' as you say...I don't go into it..I live in it. I was born into it with parents who revered all living things and were perfectly in tune with our natural surroundings. Perhaps you were not as lucky as I to have such a unique and rewarding upbringing...if that is so, than I feel your loss, while respecting your right to opine on the subject, regardless of your knowledge of the same.

Summarizing for that next thread soon to come..this is more in tune with Why I go into the environment..meaning The Hunt:

(Excuse me here...I am 'assuming' you meant hunting, right?..but I definetely do not go in for the KILL. Far, far from it, although indeed a final KILL is very important too..which we will also discuss at length ..ad nauseum to most , no doubt.)

For me, I will poorly and incompletely summarize below as to why I hunt...ergo: 'go into the environment' ;)

Development of Relationships
Solitude
Spiritual Renewal
Camraderie
Self Awareness
Photography for my soul

..to name just a few important ones...but there are many, many more all of which stem from childhood and introduction to a love of wilderness.

Kill? Hell yes, but not as you think, amigo.

My apologies to the original poster and all reading for this hijack.

That is what State Fish & Game folks are there for----to prevent the exploitation of game species---------they permit to hunt only the number of folks that would result in proper game management of the species, theoretically anyway. If 300 Million wanted to "hunt" they would be very disappointed as they might get a permit about once every 20 years.

Who said anything about global warming?

Skipjack Joe - 9-8-2011 at 02:35 PM

There are 2 issues here:

1. the morality of hunting - the right or wrong of killing as sport.

2. the enthics of hunting - good and bad game management.

Group 1 states his position and group 2 answers with his position. But the two aren't talking about the same thing.

Game management has nothing to do with the morality of killing. The goal is to maintain a healthy population. If that means culling 10-20% of the entire population to strengthen the rest, then it is done with a clean conscience. No different than with animal husbandry.

BTW, regarding the 300 million that all decide to kill? They do. Every day they step into safeway.

Kinda depends on the shopping list, Igor. Besides....how many hunters are cognizant of "Game Management" when they're out there shooting the a-ss off of Bambi with their new Weatherby?
Not many, I'm willing to bet.

Well, they better be, Dennis. Big Fines for not paying attention. There will always be rebels that take risks and break the law, and hopefully they pay for their anti-social behavior, sooner or later.

I don't hunt, never had the urge to, but I have no problem with those that do-----legally, that is.

SkipJack has it right. (I think, can't see his post while typing this)

Cypress - 9-8-2011 at 05:15 PM

Hunting isn't for everyone, neither is fishing. But those that participate usually get some extra exercise and some real tasty treats. They definitely contribute to the economy as both activities require specialized gear. The anti-hunters? Doesn't cost a cent to "mean mouth" hunters. Heck, they don't even have to buy a license.:D

wessongroup - 9-8-2011 at 06:01 PM

Speaking of hunting... bet there are still a few living around the Horn of Africa ... who are somewhat active in hunting/killing ... to live...

Boy do we have it good ....

WoW.... now what if they® were SOB...

hijack ......... and it was hot here again today .... 94º not to bad ...

Exactly!

I've introduced many to fishing. There were some that got nothing out of it and others that were hooked for life. It's a mystery.

The problem is that those who 'never got it' judge those who 'got it'. The problem is that those who 'don't get it' don't really understand those who 'get it'. And so there is this enormous gulf between the two. To truly understand a hunter you have to be a passionate hunter. Most hunters and fishermen pay no attention to the critics - because they don't understand hunting and fishing.

I often like to remember this episode from my youth. I wanted to introduce my best friend Mike to fishing. This happened at the cabrillo barge in San Pedro. We were fishing for croakers with hand lines. I showed him how to bait the hook and lower the line 3 feet off the bottom. Anyway, sometime around 8AM he pulls up his bait, looks at his wristwatch and proclaims " This bait has been on my hook now for 2 hours and 17 minutes." I was dumbfounded. Needless to say Mike never became a fisherman. It just wasn't meant to be.

LUBBOCK -- It's been a year of superlatives for Texas: worst single-year drought, largest agricultural losses and most destructive wildfires -- blazes that have damaged millions of acres and more than a thousand homes.
Now, as if Texans didn't already sense it, the official word is in: The state has just endured the hottest June through August on record in the nation, the National Weather Service said Thursday.
