U.S. Customs and Border Protection and Mexico Customs (Servicio de Administración Tributaria) today announced that the Tecate ports of entry in Tecate, California and in Tecate, Baja California will be open 24 hours-a-day starting until further notice to facilitate travel between the U.S. and Mexico during the Mexican Independence Day holiday.

The 24-hour service also is being done to process passengers and vehicles that have been affected by the lane closures traveling into the United States at the San Ysidro port of entry and resulted as part of the contingency plan presented today at the San Ysidro port of entry.

Lanes at the Puerta México/San Ysidro port traveling south into México and the lanes at Otay Mesa port of entry remain open in both directions to process cargo and passengers.

The Otay Mesa cargo facility also will be processing passengers from 8 p.m. until 5 a.m. The passenger facility at the Otay Mesa port of entry will continue to process passengers 24 hours-a-day.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of our nation's borders at and between the official ports of entry. CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.

went north this morning at 7:30 and was the second car in line. whoopeeee

BajaBlanca - 9-17-2011 at 07:34 AM

second car in line ... that must have felt good ! lucky break.

redhilltown - 9-17-2011 at 10:12 PM

second in line is heaven! I wonder how many of us would spend more time----and much more money---in Mexico if we knew we could have a somewhat reasonable border crossing...I certainly would. I realize the wait is caused by U.S. customs but a economically healthier Mexico is a safer U.S.

no real answer to this of course but a thought!

the thinking in the usa is very different...

its NOT about homeland security
its about $$$

keep the american vacation dollar in the usa
and the usa will be healthier

why make it easy...it wont happen

Faster crossing

The answer is to get a US Passport Card and use the Ready Lane at Otay, or get enrolled in the SENTRI program and use the Otay SENTRI crossing
