ATM Problems

Some friends recently went to the ATM at Bancomer in Todos Santos, and after a routine procedure of "card- pin- etc." got nothing. Since it was after hours, they went back the next day and were told that the machine was broken, contact your own bank about this.
Has anyone else had a problem with this, our main access to transferring funds, now that 'Ol Ben F. is no longer accepted?

We had this happen, do most banking online, and checked immediately when we got home for a withdrawal and also the next day. Never received cash so it was not processed. Santander/BOA

Yes, happened to me in Ensanada. Wouldn't leave the bank until cleared up. Manager ran audit on machine and showed that it returned the money to my account. No problems.

get a new bank. what if some one skimmed your card and stole your PIN

This happened to me at the Bancomer in Mulege a couple of years ago. Received no money from the ATM and no receipt - the bank was closed at the time. When they opened on Monday I reported the problem and indicated my US bank had debited my account. Bancomer audited their cash from the machine and indicated I needed to contact my US bank - I did, explained the situation. It took a few days before the money reappeared in my account due to Bancomer being a foreign bank, but it did. There is a process the banks have for these types of situations and it seems to work, at least it did for me. I do not have an account with Bancomer - just use their ATM. Also my US bank indicated this was not an uncommon problem, even with ATMs in the USA, which is why there are procedures in place to handle cases such as mine.

It's happened to me four or five times. Don't even bother telling the proprietor of the store or the local bank. They couldn't care less.
Contact your bank and they'll get to work on it immediatly. I've always been reimbursed, most often on the same day as my report.....pending investigation.
That's the astounding part....the investigations have never ruled against me or been undecided.

My BofA Debit card and credit card look alike. I was on my bike and only took the WRONG card with me. I put it in the machine, entered my PIN and it kicked it back to me because it wasn't my debit card or the PIN didn't match. I had never used that BoA credit card for an ATM withdrawal and even BoA said I didn't have a PIN for it at the time of the transaction. Nevertheless the money was withdrawn from the credit account and I was out of luck because I had entered a PIN. It took months of back and forth- but I still lost.

Lots of news in the last year about how PINs are stolen. I am surprised BofA took such a hard stance.

Why would you use an ATM machine in a third world country? Take cash with you or go to the bank when it's open.

Because its no different than a first world country and darn convenient.
