Mexican Health Insurance??

DaleG - 9-21-2011 at 09:35 AM

I am somewhat familiar with the Govt Health Insurance in Mexico but I am wondering more specifically about private policies that one might buy. Does anyone have experience or recommendations about health care? thank you.

I've heard of "Private Policies", but I've never heard anything bad OR good about them which tells me there's little faith in them.
In this country, where lawsuits don't favor the plaintiff, I would be very skeptical.

Ok. Ill rephrase this for the skeptical one. Where does everyone go when they get sick or worse? Private family doc? hospital? farmacia simi?

AXA Insurance is the best. I have friends who needed dead serious care and swear by it. They say that the coverage is great, they will pay to fly you to specialists if needed, etc...

There is an agent in La Paz. Mario Ortiz on Altamirano and 5 de Febrero. segortiz@prodigy.net.mx, 612-123-4242

It is my understanding that if you exclude coverage for the US, Canada and Europe it is cheap.

Sorry, they don't fly you to see a Specialist. We also thought that, we flew to Guadalajara. When we submitted the bill for airfare they turned us down. It was only $100 R/T so it didn't matter.. We got our insurance from Mario, he's a great guy to work with. For us we pay $2,000 dollars a year per person...IF we are on vacation in the US or anywhere they pay 100% no deductible.

I went to a private doctor once in BCS for food poisoning. Fish tacos a few days before. Just went to town and stopped in the first doctor's office I saw. Man was I sick. You don't want to know the details. He gave me some magic pills. Cheap, worked great.

Thanks for the info!
So, once you have a permanent address in Mexico, they cover you "on vacation" to the US? How do they determine residence vs. vacation for people who go back and forth between both places? Do you have to be Mexican citizen? Fm2 or 3?

IMSS= Importa Madre Su Salud

ISSSTE= Inutil Solicitar Servicios Solo Tenemos Entierros

Bill Collector - 9-21-2011 at 04:34 PM

We happen to be Mexican Citizens..when we first signed up for this insurance we had FM3. If we go to the US we are on vacation...

DaleG - 9-22-2011 at 07:08 AM

Thanks for all the USABLE info. I will look into AXA insurance.
C-Urchin asked , do you need to be a perm. resident or hold a FM2 or FM3 in order to be covered while in the US. Does anyone know that answer?
$2K /yr sounds great, my Kaiser runs me about $4K/yr and they are very good about reimbursing for international hospital stays(altho Ive never used that option yet). So far, I am a huge fan of the Farmacia Similares system for routine visits and testing. How can you beat $30 pesos for a doc visit?

Call Cindy at My Baja Insurance in Rosarito, she's a great agent and works with most of the best companies.

Why do you need Mexican health insurance? I thought Obamacare was going to save us all.

DaleG - 9-22-2011 at 09:20 AM

Not only that but he has floated an idea before about charging ex-pats an exit fee. That guy has got to go...
