Hubby and I are heading to Baja first part of October. I have heard about an aircard from telcel to access the internet on a laptop, or a sim card
for the iPad. Where is a convenient telcel store? Are other nomads connecting to the internet via a "aircard"?Desertbull - 9-30-2011 at 08:22 PM
On the way out of Ensenada heading south on the west side next to the McDonalds and near the Home Depot parking lot. Bring your US Passport and CDL
to register the Air Card / TelCel .... It's a pain, but once you go thru all the reg once you'll be good to go.
Lots of TelCel reps there speak English if you don't speak Spanish.daveyjoans - 10-1-2011 at 08:33 AM
Thank You kindly!BajaRat - 10-2-2011 at 09:25 AM
We love ours!
And you can pay for it by the GB if your not full time user.
You can reload online or any Telcel rep.

In short, you get 3GB of data or 30 days access (whichever comes first) for US$ 40.
There are other options available for shorter periods or less data. See the articles for more details on how it all works.

Telcel 3G usb internet access, About 835 pesos for the device and 30 days service, 3 GB download, go over that and DL speed is throttled to 128k. The
service is spotty and fluctuates as to DL/UL speeds.
A CDL, FM-3, Mexican utility bill may be needed.DENNIS - 10-2-2011 at 10:11 AM
Realize the TelCel 3G card does not work "everywhere" in Baja. Reception is spotty and works best in heavily populated areas. I have used it once in
the Cabo area and it worked okay.
Where do you plan to use it?Riom - 10-2-2011 at 11:34 AM

The Telcel Amigo 3G is prepaid, just needs a passport for the initial sim registration (no FM3 or Mexican utility bill, that only applies to contracts
- which don't offer any great savings).
When the 3GB download is exceeded (for prepaid), access switches to by-the-KB billing. It doesn't go to a throttled speed, like it did in the early
days of the service. In other words, the prepayment ends after 30 days or 3GB download, whichever is first. Might be different again for contracts.
Note that when the 3GB (or 30 days) limit is reached, unless you have set it up to automatically charge you a new month (only available online), it
will switch to billing you by-the-kilobyte from your cash balance, without warning. This can run through the entire balance on the card very quickly,
so never leave a substantial balance on the card. Do monitor usage closely (the website will tell you the usage they have measured).

thanks for the info! Finding the Home Depot was easy with spacious parking near the TelCel store. The two English speaking employees (who helped
me) were helpful and courteous.
I brought my laptop in with me to be sure the modem would work. The employee helped set it up and I was online! It cost 500.00 pesos with 30 days or
3GBs, whichever comes first. I can go online to buy more credit. When we left and got back on the road I was emailing away! Works great near towns
but not in remote areas. Oh, and they only asked for my passport, no DL
