We've been packing to leave for the East Cape for a few days now.
I've been watching a storm system that started out in the Gulf of Alaska about 10 days ago and hoping we could get out of town before it reached us
here in Northern Nevada. Not to be .....

This will delay us a day or two as we have five 7,500 ft passes to get over before we're down in the desert and on our way. (I don't do chains on a
travel trailer. Besides, there's something not right about taking chains to Baja...)
Now here's the interesting part.
Also been watching DTBushpilot's post of the potential hurricane brewing south of Cabo and wondering if we can get down and set up before it possibly
hits lower Baja.
Those two/three tropical depressions have been showing a strange forecasted track of northwest and then a sharp buttonhook turn to the east and right
into the Sea of Cortez. Turns out that the low pressure system from Alaska (bringing snow to me right now) will sink down through Utah, New Mexico,
and into northern Mexico. This is the steering system with low pressure that is going to pull those tropical depressions into the Cape area.
I find it interesting that a storm system that formed near Japan in the Northern Pacific and a storm system from the Central America/Pacific area will
actually interact with each other.
It is a small world ...

You should also try this for Baja weather, note model and cloud buttons.
Turning on the "Forecast Models" button makes the track look even worse.
How late in the year do hurricanes actually hit Baja? Maybe this delay at the northern end isn't that bad an idea.

We left Carson City Tuesday morning........got out of Dodge just in time. The only snow I'm going to see this year is on the Weather Channel.
Have you considered south on 95 through Hawthorne then take 6 to Bishop?????....that's the way we go when it is snowing or when 395 is ugly.
Oh, by the way.....warm and sunny here, blue skies....(couldn't resist)

Ditto what bajaguy said to use 95 to 6 and hit 395 in Bishop. I've done that when chains were required on 395 and didn't see a flake. On another
note, where in N Nevada are you getting that? Saturday I need to go (non-baja related, sorry) through Nevada from Oregon, Denio-Winnemucca-Battle

Bajaguy .....
No snow in Carson City, just some rain. Snow line was about 6500 ft. You did beat the cold temps by leaving!
Have used Hwy 95 and 6 some years if forced to. Adds about 2 hours but better than not leaving if the passes have chain controls.
BKBend ....
Snow photo is at 7500 ft in North Tahoe. Should be clear driving by Saturday and most of your route will be below the snow line. Not sure about Bob
Scott Summit near Austin. It's near 7300 ft but there tends to be less snow in central Nevada than near the Sierras.

RnR - thanks. Good luck with the snow and have fun! I'll be headed to Baja in about three/four weeks and will be looking for a "nice" window of
weather on 395. It's a pretty drive after the first dusting of snow on the mountains. I've hit Bob Scott pass in one of these Oct storms pulling a
travel trailer and the pucker factor goes up for that short stretch.
