OK, we've heard all the long stories but haven't answered the real question. i.e. Which is the better route today? Hwy#3 or Road 2000?

Now that the construction is pretty much over, Highway 3 is by far the most scenic and enjoyable trip.

- What I hate is asking a question, and then seeing the cogs spin up and attain operational speed in their head as they mentally compose the lecture they are about to deliver from the virtual podium that appears out of n-space directly in front of them.

Southbound we always cross at San Ysidro and take the toll road to Ensenada, Northbound Hiway 3 crossing at Tecate. Only reports of roadwork delays on 3 change that scenario.

Guadalupe Valley (just north of Ensenada on 3) offers great scenery, wine tasting, B and B's, hotels/motels, and many good restaurant options. It's a great place to spend some time.

We frequent three restaurants:

***El Corecaminos (east side at KM 93)

Very popular restaurant, good for breakfast and typical Mexican food choices.

***Los Naranjos (west side at KM 82.5)

In an orange grove, very scenic location. More upscale than El Corecaminos, we particularly like the pork shanks.

***El Meson de Mustafa (west side at KM 93)

Our favorite of the three. Their soups are excellent. Be sure to try their lamb dishes when available. The owners are very friendly.

For Fine Dining Laja and Silvestre have been top rated. We have not had the opportunity to dine at either of them, sorry to say.

Here is a different answer Hwy. III :cool:

(any short detours will be worth the rest of the glorious drive).

Worse is south of Ensenada where lots of detours await you (if you go south)!
