My wife is of Kumeyaay descent. Her Father, Grandfather and herself are from the local San Pasqual band.
There is a book by Richard Carrico, "Strangers in a stolen land" that is very detailed on the history of the Kumeyaay and others Indians in the
Southern California areas.
While the local tribes are trying to preserve there history by means of the elders, and classes and such, I feel most of the details and such of there
history will be lost as time goes on.
Many who belong to these tribes do not live on the reservation and are not in close contact with the history lessons and customs being shared. This is
only my opinion from my direct observations. |
