Bringing recharged batteries back into Baja

DanO - 10-20-2011 at 10:52 AM

I've got four Trojan LR16RE-B batteries I bought last year and had shipped to Baja by a customs broker with my other solar system materials. I paid the customs broker all import duties. Then some bonehead who looks a lot like me let them run way down until they wouldn't hold a charge without serious intervention (don't ask for the details, it's too embarassing). Anyway, as they were still under warranty, I brought them back up to the U.S. for a repair/recharge or replacement. After a week, the dealer was able to bring them up to full charge and they appear to be in good shape. I need to take them back down, and I have the invoices showing that the broker charged me the import duties. Should I declare them and then provide the paperwork that explains all this, or just go through without declaring and if pulled over and asked, say they are used and provide the paperwork at that point?

Just drive through. If "red lighted" then show the documentation. If this doesn't work then ask them to send you back to the States. Try again after the 4pm shift change. If that doesn't work try Otay.

Eventually you'll get a green light. ;D

actually you made a mistake

you should have gotten a letter from the aduana to take them to the usa

then when you return you go to secondary and they let you pass

now...
if you have your first import paperwork
take that into secondary
get a toung lashing
and you wont pay

otherwise you have to import again
to be legal

If they look used, no problema. You have the paperwork, no problema. Just drive through, no problema.
