Hotels between San Felipe and Chapala

rts551 - 10-23-2011 at 11:04 AM

Since the road is getting better we were wondering about traveler accommodations on MEX 5. I know it is to much to ask for the luxury of a Baja Cactus Hotel, but something on the order of a 500 peso hotel is what we are looking at. for example, the Mission Santa Maria or Jardines are excellent accommodations on the Pacific side. Anything similar on the gulf side?

Mex 5 cuts 200 miles off our trip.

Alfonsinas? at Gonzaga have eaten at the restaurant...have not stayed at the motel...about$60

Isnt ALfonsinas the only game in town, between these 2 spots

I have stayed at Alfys several times now, always enjoyed myself

rooms are truly Baja, but clean with hot water, great restaurant and Bar, the Location and view are to die for, did I say its on Gonzaga Bay

We stayed there a couple of times as well as the one in Puertecitos. You are right it is basic and the owner is...selective. How about San Felipe? Dog friendly is helpful.

Between Alfonsina's and Punta Final is EL SACRIFICIO... with some cabins for about the same price as Alfonsina's:

Yes, I was with my wife and her daughter (July 4th weekend), and while I was open to roughing it there for the night... I didn't argue when they wanted to get out of there and drive to El Rosario that afternoon!

Art (edm-1) and his wife were behind us, and they did stay at Sacrificio, but in their motorhome. This was the afternoon after the Erik sunk off Punta Bufeo and killed so many fishermen... we didn't hear about until we got home 2 days later.

Way to bump up a thread form 6 months ago Woody!

To add more to Ralph's info... Punta Bufeo had rooms for overnight (at least they did) and Puertecitos also has rooms for overnight.

As the road gets finished, more and more travelers will require a place to stay. Long way from NOB to GN.

Look for the Rodriguez/ Los Pinos Tomato Group to make one at Gonzaga Bay (they own Rancho Grande and the former Desert Inn/ La Pinta hotels at San Quintin and Cataviņa!

We stayed there three weeks ago and it was $1350 Pesos for a large, two-bed room.

we usually cross at San Luis or Algadones so about 170 miles to San Felipe then 250 on to GN... Cross at around 8 am into SF at about 10:30 and into GN around 5.... saves us bunches of time and miles from the east..
Then on to Mulege in about 4 hours...
Works pretty good for us... even with the 23 miles of nasty..
Not so nasty this year...
thats my story and I am sticking to it...
