this is fantastic news for all of us who live or visit Asuncion or Turtle Bay. The governor was in the area last week to announce some stuff like the new road fixing project and the water line to Pta.Prieta/La Bocana etc. Amazingly enough, the road crews got cracking immediately on putting a new layer of blacktop down...FINALLY...on that infamous part of the road outside of Vizcaino that was always full of nasty pot holes....this is a dream come true for coastal dwellers!

Hope the repairs and repaving go faster than what is being done on the road to Lopez Mateos now. . . and better.

I was amazed how quick they got at it and they are progressing rapidly....supposed to be done by Christmas....we'll see. It was paved... but a long time ago (by mexican road standards) and sure needs an upgrade.

Dan...you will be treated to the sandy side road show!

Wonderful news! It really was awful slamming into some of those broken holes in the asphalt. Certain areas would just lull you to sleep and suddenly---Oh No--Bam. I'm sure both Gringos and locals are Happy! :tumble:

Just think if they actually made the pavement more than a half inch thick, on a compacted roadbed, it could last 10 years before any work was needed for pot holes!

Do it right once... or do it wrong, over and over... What is really the least expensive way?

Getting over the sandy side road last Sunday was a bit of a challenge. I was sandwiched into a long line of trucks fully loaded with soil and gravel. The six trucks ahead of me managed to kick up a pretty high center of the road, and I wasn't sure my little RAV4 was going to clear it. Fortunately, the center sand was soft, so I could brush it gently aside with the undercarriage. The sand was wet, and others have gotten stuck in that area, so take it easy.

speaking of which....anybody heading south towards Vizcaino passing thorugh the ensenada area who would like some excellent company...looking for a ride for Sirenita & Izaak anytime after Nov.7th or so...we're flexible...gotta ride back for her already.

Last time they "fixed" the road, they only completely replaced some areas like the first part right out of Vizcaino, and those areas have held up quite well, so far. It was all the areas that they just patched that became such a mess again.

It appears they are really replacing it this time----at least in the area just beyond where they replaced it before----On Wednesday, the flagman told us that they planned on being finished in three months.

Meantime, as Zoe mentioned, do be careful on the side road. The center is getting higher and higher. Maybe they will grade it again.

Also, for several miles before the turn off to BA, many of those pot holes are growing quickly.

Can't wait until it is complete and hoping that it will last longer this time---However, the first part of the road into BA, the part that was built first, is beginning to show some signs if tiny potholes.

Going to the bank will be so much easier!
