"took a trip to our place at Ceilito Lindo. Flew down in an S35 Bonanza. I had not been there in 2.5 years and did not know what to expect. I had contacted Jaunita to let them know we would be coming and to ask if they could give a report on the runway condition. She said someone would prep it before our arrival. Boy did they. One of the residents, Mike, did a great job with the roller behind his truck. The result was better than it has been in many years. Few bumps and no soft spots. The taxiway had also been worked on in recent months. David had some locals and a tractor move some dirt around to widen the entrance to the parking area. It's much better than it was on the last trip but still a little rough. I could see that it was passable so I kept the speed up so the engine RPM could stay down. No big deal.
Once we settled in we headed to the Cantina and were happy to hear that there is a new owner of the Bar/Restaurant/Motel. He is a guy from Mexicali that is very personable and seems to be putting a fair amount of money into the place. The bar is much cleaner and visual improvements have been made. This is good. What is not good is that there was no one there. This was a holiday weekend in the states and there were only two people in the campground and one person in the motel.

Everyone, please think of Ceilito Lindo for a place to stop for lunch or better yet stay the night. They're very welcoming."

oh the stories we can tell of overdoing the 2 margarita limit !!! hysterically funny !!

we have not gone to cielito lindo in years since we found bedbugs in the mattresses - can you confirm that they have new mattresses capt. mike ?

If so, we shall surely stop by as we used to enjoy staying there.

Mike. Great report. Suppose you cleared customs with your plane with no problem. That's great!!! Hope you have a glorious time. Sounds like ou have company when you referred to "WE" Have you given up on Serenidad in Mulege.? I know you sold you place there a couple years ago. What do you have here that is the draw?? How long does it take from phoenix to C.L.?

Phil - was from another pilot not me , but i know a lot of people here have liked the place. My last landing there was 2007 we left Serenidad 4th weekend with another plane - too fricken hot at serenidad so we went to El Socorrito to a friends place on a private strip. 8 miles south of SQ.

2 hour flight north and got socked in by the time we arrived. So i found it clear inland at CL and landed there to wait it out. hour later it broke enuff to hop south to our friends.

before that i was there in 2003 at the baja mil with Desert Bull and others helping pit some motos at SQ in the hills.
Spent a night then after the bikes came thru i flew to Alfonsinas to watch the rest of the race blast through at night. Great trips all.

CL is about 30 - maybe 45 min max, south of Ensenada if you clear in there.

As far as bed bugs - who knows? most of the "stuff" there last time i stayed was pretty old and run down.

CIELTO LINDO...ah, that name is focusing some faded memories from that rather unique Baja gathering spot. :yes:

The Big & Really Bad jumbo margaritas, the pot-bellied, nacho-eating pig under your table, the huge platters of paprika crabs, scraping your nose on the sidewalk getting back to your room, the sulfur-water showers, wishing you had brought the pistol to shoot the c-ckroach on the room's ceiling, wishing you had brought some ear-plugs to shut out the wife's screaming, scraping your nose getting back to the bar...


...hah...I am glad to hear it's still there. The last decade or two, I've just zoomed past the turn-off.

This trip I'm stopping back to retrieve my sanity.

Stone Crab Claws..

I first had these tasty treats there in the 80's and went back many times until the place just got too tired. I hope they are in a renaissance now. I too will check back in next trip.

For those who have not had Stone Crab Claws in paprika they are worth a try. I have seen them at Jardines. Maybe the "new" Old Mill are serving them.
