Are there any motels closer NOB to Tecate than in El Cajon?

I have no idea what NOB means but if you have an ATM card, use it at any Mexican bank ATM and it spits out peso.
Much better than exchanging dollars for pesos at a kiosk someplace.
In fact, I would not bring a large amount of USD with you to exchange.
A hundred bucks in USD is fine and just use the pesos for whatever it is you want.
If your crossing at Tecate, 2 blocks straight ahead (south), on the right, is a Bancomer with an ATM machine.

North OF (the) Border OR North Of Baja.
I think El Cajon is the closest motel area...
I don't get the driving so far east when you are southbound... Northbound yes, because of the border wait... But southbound, the Otay to Corredor 2000
expressway is such a dream drive to Ensenada!

Thousand Trails in Jamul has some cabins and is fairly close to the Tecate POE. From San Diego: Take I-805 south to the Telegraph Canyon Road exit and
travel east. Continue straight on Telegraph Canyon Road, which becomes Otay Lakes Road. Follow for about 17 miles to the campground.

Cross S/B at Otay and take Corridor 2000 south to the free road, drive south to Cantimar, jump on the toll road to Ensenada.
Carry about $100US in small bills, use the ATM's (at banks or inside large supermarkets) for Pesos at the official exchange rate which today was about
13.4 pesos to 1 US dollar.....spend Pesos while in Baja
If you need a motel before you cross S/B, try the LaQuinta Inn at the 805 S/B and Bonita Road...pet friendly.TecateRay - 11-9-2011 at 06:34 PM
Why not stay in Tecate? The Estancia Hotel is nice and has a "secure" parking area.Kalypso - 11-9-2011 at 11:45 PM

There is a dump called the Crown Hotel on Campo Rd. in Spring Valley/Casa de Oro, a block off the 94. It's about 30-35 mintues NOB. You might see if
you can find something in the Rancho San Diego area. That would be a few miles past Steele Canyon High School, where the 94 makes the right turn to
head to the border. There are 2 pretty large shopping plazas there that are very busy. There might be a hotel/motel somewhere nearby.
When are you crossing? I'll be in Tecate on Friday and can pay closer attention to the drive. There isn't much between Rancho San Diego and Tecate
