Veterans Day 2011

Thank you to all of you who helped provide the freedom that we all enjoy. From Belleau Wood, The Solomons, Normandie, Inchon, Khe Sahn,
Kuwait, Bhagdad, and Kabul....thank you.To the gentlemen from Sacramento, Punta Banda, and everyone in between, I say thank you.

Our ambassadors in green fought for freedom overseas so that future generations wouldn't have to fight for it in Santa Monica, Portland, or Boston. Every day is Veterans day for me. As I shake a hand, render a salute, or just say thank you to a Veteran, I am shaking your hand, saluting you, or saying "thank you" to you. God bless you and your families.

we're finally wrapping up our project at MCRD San Diego. it's been a privilege to watch each new group of recruits transform into US Marines over the past year.

Although I didn't serve during a time of war in the USN it opened my eyes and taught me to have the utmost resepct for those in the uniforms. It's hard to explain the the kinship, the team feeling you develop when you stand next to your brothers and sisters knowing that each would sacrifice their life for you and for those they don't know for the sake of our nation and our way of life.
If you see somone in uniform today please take the time to thank them, shake their hand tell them you appreciate the honor they bring to their families and the people of this nation.
Finally, take pause in your day for a moment and bless the souls that have given their lives in the name of freedom.

It's an honor to have served and a pleasure to have survived.
Let's all just party down and remember those who weren't so fortunate. What they gave, everything...........they gave for us. Salud

We are survivors...those of us that came back. Some of us came back broken....some not. Any person that steps up to the plate...is my hero.

It is a special day for all who served in the military. It is on this day my thoughts turn to my two uncles, one who served in the 101st Airborne and was wounded and the youngest brother who made the ultimate sacrifice and went down in a B-24 over Europe. I never met him but there are few I have more respect for.

While waiting for my wife to pick me up at the VA hospital in Albuquerque Tuesday, I was reading again about the flag raising on Iwo Jimo. And the story of Ira Hayes always brings tears to my eyes, how some who came back bodily whole, were still so broken - and we haven't found a way to fix them. Semper Fi

Sad day.......for a few reasons. One is, that after fifteen hours into the day, there are no more than a dozen posts to the honor of vets, alive, or spent to your advantage.
Shameful.

Wow. This is touching -- at least for me. Thanks for writing these words.

Got a call today from my Sis thanking me -- something she's never done -- and she lives with my old best friend, also a Nam Vet. So, got a chance to thank him too.

Gotta thank my Dad who died 40 years ago today in a California VA hospital. Japan POW and Silver Star. Still miss him esp. on this day.

I think Vets appreciate Vets the most though there are some very caring people out there who still believe in honor, duty and country. Thanks for all the Vets posting here and those who still care for these values. Think it use to have more meaning.

Yep, one can support the troops and not the "war"... and still be an American ... there are a few doing it right now ... in some pretty nasty and dangerous places... they are soldiers ... that's their "MOS"...
