Mexicali trio delivers amazing cover of Adele’s ‘Rolling in the Deep’

TIJUANA.-“Vásquez Sounds” is a trio of siblings from Mexicali who have caused a deep commotion on YouTube with their interpretation of the popular tune by Adele “Rolling in The Deep.”

“We’re siblings doing what we like to do,” the trio says in the video they posted on YouTube on Thursday.

Four days later the siblings have more than 52,000 “likes” -- and counting.

They are ten-year-old, Angie, the vocalist, and her brothers Gustavo, on drums, and Abelardo, on guitar and piano. The video has become a worldwide sensation.

In one newscast in Spain, the anchor introduces the video by saying that “this ten-year-old’s voice could tame wild beasts.”

The title of the story?

“Three siblings sweep the Internet.”

Mexicali siblings sign contract with Sony Music

Became YouTube sensation with ‘Rolling in the Deep’
Por: Andrea García
9 Diciembre 2011

TIJUANA – A month after three unknown Mexicali siblings posted their musical video of Adele’s hit “Rolling in the Deep” on the Internet, they have signed with Sony Music and appear to be recording in San Diego County.

The video, published on Nov. 10, has nearly 12 million visits on YouTube as fans in Mexico, the United States and Europe share it through social media.

The video made instant celebrities of the three Vázquez siblings -- Abelardo, 15, who plays piano and guitar; drummer Gustavo, 13; and Ángela, whose powerful voice belies her ten years of age.

The new celebrities, who go by the name of Vazquez Sounds, have music in their blood. Their father, Abelardo Vázquez, is a prominent arranger and producer who “discovered” the Mexican pop band Reik and rock group Nikki Clan and signed them to Sony Music.

In the days after his kids’ video became a YouTube sensation, Vázquez insisted that they would focus on school, only posting one new video a month.

It appears that school will have to wait, at least for a while.

Last weekend, the giant Televisa network presented them at the end of their annual telethon, seen by millions across Mexico and in the United States.

Then Sony Music announced that it had signed the trio to a recording contract.

“Sonymusicmexico will take our music to the whole world. We’ll take care of the rest,” the siblings wrote on their Twitter account @VazquezSounds.

In other postings they said they were recording in San Diego County, though offered no details. They may be working locally with Kiko Cibrian, who has collaborated with their father in producing Reik and Latin American superstar Luis Miguel.

awsome

Big mistake. They should not have released that. The little girl is too far out of tune. This will hurt them. That song needed more work.

Kid band Vazquez Sounds takes Mexico by storm

By E. NATALIA CANO

MEXICO CITY (AP) — Ten-year-old Angie Vazquez has become an Internet phenom belting out a soulful cover of Brit pop star Adele's "Rolling in the Deep." In an online video seemingly shot at home, her teenage brothers Abelardo and Gustavo play the keyboard, guitar and drums.

The video drew almost 18 million views, interviews on Mexico's major television networks and a mention on Good Morning America. Within weeks of its Nov. 11 posting, the so-called Vazquez Sounds signed a contract with Sony Music Mexico. They released their first album this week that includes another Internet smash cover, of Mariah Carey's "All I Want for Christmas is You."

Their nearly overnight success online evokes the now legendary saga of Canadian 'tween idol Justin Bieber, who was discovered after his mother posted online amateur footage of him crooning and strumming.

"We make a lot of videos of a lot of things, but my son Abelardo wanted to record this song and share it with friends and family," said father Abelardo Vazquez in a telephone interview from the family's hometown of Mexicali, on the California border. "We really didn't expect the cover to become such a phenomenon on the Web."

Before you call the Vazquez clan Mexico's version of Bieber-mania, consider this: The elder Abelardo Vazquez is a professional music producer instrumental in creating the sound of well-known Mexican bands such as Reik and Nikki Clan, also from the border.

The videos of Angie and her brothers in their home studio are also professionally produced, mixed and lighted, with slick camera work.

Abelardo Vazquez says he's not driving his kids into the music business, though he acknowledges they've had a leg up.

"My kids have had a musical education since they were very young, because I have worked producing groups for many years," the father said.

When the video sparked interest in a few million people beyond the Vazquez's immediate circle, the decision to cut a CD was natural, Vazquez said.

He added that he retains total control over the project, and Sony music is working as a distributor.

"The contract with Sony isn't the traditional type," Vazquez said. "It isn't the typical contract with record companies, in which they used to control the artists' career. This is a family project."

Although Vazquez has had an eight-year relationship with Sony, Roberto Lopez, president of the label, said he and his team were unaware of the Vazquez Sounds and first heard the group like everyone else — on the Internet.

Working with such a young group poses special challenges and "very strong personal care," Lopez said.

"It is something special because they are children, and we want them to stay in school," he said. "The agreement was that their involvement in music, which has been going on for years now, would continue without affecting their lifestyle."

Vazquez said other record companies had expressed interest, but Sony was the only one that met his conditions for the kids. Cynics note that Sony is also the label that signed some of Vazquez's other acts.

The CD includes the original cover of "Rolling in the Deep," a remix of that crowd pleaser and, at least in its online version, a more wobbly cover of the Mariah Carey song. Coincidentally, it's the same song Bieber included in his holiday season "Under the Mistletoe" disc.

In the meantime, the Vazquez Sounds have been invited to perform on television programs in the United States, Italy and England.

But they can pick and choose.

"The kids are not obligated to do promotional work like other acts," said the elder Vazquez. "We want them to live a life like any other child their age."

New release - ****************

Mengano - 1-18-2012 at 11:36 AM

New video released by Vasquez Sounds, "Forget You."

If it sounds familiar, it is because it is a cover of Cee Lo Green's - F*CK YOU. Yes, that is the actual name of the song.

Who could possibly have advised these kids to associate themselves with this trashy song? Somebody must have known that could have enlightened them as to their mistake.

Well, there certainly is precedent here. In the 50's and 60's Pat Boone took a series of songs by Little Richard and other black artists which had lyrics that could not be played on mainstream radio, made the lyrics more acceptable to white america and had a series of hits that dominated the charts and made him a fortune. He then became a Bible thumper without ever, to my knowledge, acknowledging the original content or the artists whose songs he "interpreted." Just sayin----

Can't remember anything off-color about Little Richard's stuff in "The Girl Can't Help It" days. In fact, the word "crap" would have gotten an artist arrested.
But....I can't remember everything.

Little Richard

He did get arrested in Amarillo Tx for indecent exposure when he jumped up and tore off his shirt during his number.:lol:

Oh yeah, who could forget Pat Boone's "smoke n" renditions ...:lol::lol:

The Vásquez kids are covering the version of this song as performed by Gwyneth Paltrow with the cast of/on the television show Glee:

Also on the "live" tour:

They are doing the "clean" version... Forget YOU" instead of the other language version. I don't see a problem with it.

Kinda like doing the Dirty Boogie with your clothes on??

I don't know which version parodies the other, but it's hard to imagine hearing one without hearing the other. Under the circumstances I think they could have chosen a less tainted tune. Their involvement with this song will be remembered long after the dust settles.

Thanks for the entertainment ... I think ...
