Well, since I could not make a trip to Baja this time of year, I took a quick three day jaunt to our closest sand. My goal was to do almost nothing,
other than relax and I was very successful. I loaded the Kubota into the toy hauler, enough food and clothes for 3-4 days, grabbed the wife and a
grandchild and we were off to Samoa OHV Park on the dreary coast of Northern California.
The good old Dodge got 12.3 MPG towing over mountainous roads and never missed a beat.
I was concerned about the Kubota’s performance in the sand, as I had been told that they are prone to getting stuck fairly easy. I had purchased the
RTV500 to work around the property with, I was impressed, it actually did very well in the deep, soft sand.
Although I am sure the guys with real sand toys would have laughed me into the sand, we had a fun time. JH

We try to eat there every time we get into the area. At the Samoa Cookhouse they sit you family style, at the other end of the table was a very
pleasant local family that we got to know and exchange ideas with. Our dinner was presented by a very pleasant waitress; she brought out all we could
eat homemade bread with soft butter and some homemade seasoned croutons for our green salad. Realizing that I could have filled up on just the bread
and salad, I knew that I was going to need to pace myself. She brought out some delicious fried chicken that was really moist inside and crispy
outside, real mashed potatoes and gravy, a bowl of hot buttered corn. And just when I thought I can’t get any more in, she brought us some of their
famous lemon squares that were covered with just a light dusting of powdered sugar. Yep, I would say that dinner may have been the highlight of the

Thanks---we hope to make it back up that way sometime next year. We were married in Arcata and love that town and the "dreary" northern coast.

Did you make it to the Maritime Museum? If not, go back, it is worth it. Actually, ALL of the museums down the Oregon coast are worth it. A very
interesting, fascinating history is told in each one. Last summer I rode my bicycle down the coast and I checked them all out.
